A-Mode: AMD scaling
Hmm, this is interesting. Our initial results with the A-mode of HYDRA aren’t nearly as good as we see only a 5% increase in the performance of our synthetic 3DMark Vantage benchmark.
Batman: Arkham Asylum (DirectX 10)
One of the best received gaming titles on both console and PC for
2009, Batman: Arkham Asylum is an impressive game both visually and in
terms of design.
Batman: Arkham Asylum shows some decent performance scaling with the HD 4890 adding another 18% at 1920×1200 and about 25% here in this highest 2560×1600 settings.
Far Cry 2 (DirectX 10)
Far Cry 2 is the spiritual sequel to one of the best selling and
longest living games on the PC though this title was developed not by
Crytek, but by Ubisoft directly using a completely new engine as well.
The game is set in Africa and you have malaria – what else do you need
to know?
That didn’t turn out very well – the DX10 iteration of Far Cary 2 just didn’t scale at all with the combination of Radeon HD 5870 and HD 4890 and in fact the system performed UNDER where the single HD 4890 sat. The game does work better with DX9 enabled rather than DX10, but again, we were set on following our standard GPU testing suite.
Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X (DirectX 10)
An action-flight simulator game, H.A.W.X offers great visuals with easy flying mechanics and gameplay.
HAWX performance did at least scale in the right direction though the percentages aren’t as good as we saw in our N-Mode testing: 17% at 1920×1200 and only 8% at 2560×1600.
World in Conflict (DirectX 10)
An incredibly detailed RTS game, World in Conflict allows you to look at your troops from a bird’s eye view as well as zooming to street level to get hands on with the combat. As you get closer, the game only looks better, as the scaling detail is incredible making this title an easy pick for DX10 benchmarking.
Finally, World in Conflict gives us 11% scaling at 1920×1200 and just under 9% at 2560×1600.
