Heat and Weight

It goes without saying that heat is a concern when deciding on which mobile computer to buy. The Asus Eee 1201N can get fairly warm under a full CPU load, and the air coming out of the left-hand side can be hot but luckily dissipates quickly 2″ away from the vent. The left wrist rest is the warmest part of the console reaching a toasty 30.9C – luckily this only happens during long sustained loads.

Weight

The Eee 1201N is a fairly light unit weighing in at just over 3 lbs. without the power adapter. On a few occasions I took the 1201N with me on outings and found the weight and size very manageable. For short trips, the weight is bearable but after 20 minutes of walking it does start to stress your muscles if you’re carrying it over your shoulder.

  • Battery: 350g / 0.77 lbs.
  • Body: 1150g / 2.54 lbs.
  • Power adapter: 250g / 0.55 lbs.
  • Total: 1500g / 3.3 lbs.  (1750 g / 3.86 lbs. with power adapter)
Thanks to its small footprint and small power adapter, I was able to toss the Eee 1201N in my satchel bag without any problems. Having used a 6 lb. 15.4″ notebook for the past 2 years, having something that light and portable feels liberating.
