“Very few chip factories are built from the ground up these days. So I leaped at the chance to visit GlobalFoundries’ new facility in upstate New York. Though the factory is still years away from mass producing chips for our computers and cell phones, it’s still impressive, both in the magnitude of the facility and the advanced technology that it represents.”Here is some more Tech News from around the web:

A groundbreaking trip to up-state New York; Global Foundries new Fab
It will be years before the construction is finished on Fab 8 and Saratoga county becomes a hotbed of technical innovation but once Global Foundries starts up the lines you can expect 35,000 300mm diameter silicon wafers per month. As this is a brand new Fab, the design can incorporate new technology such as better air circulation and water systems instead of trying to retrofit an older building. ExtremeTech had a chance to visit the site and talk with those building the Fab, which you can read about here.
