System Setup and Testing Configuration
Our Phenom II X6 1090T (misreported as something called a 1095T) runs at 800 MHz while idle with the power features enabled.
The base clock rate of the CPU is 3.2 GHz and it will run at that speed during most loads and with Turbo Core Technology disabled.
However WITH Turbo Core Technology, up to three cores will run as high as 3.6 GHz, seen here. Notice also though that voltage spikes quite a bit and this will affect power consumption.
For our testing suite and application benchmarks the process is almost exactly the same as it has been for the last year. In a couple of instances though where we manually specify the number of threads the application uses, we have increased our maximum from 8 threads to 12 to compensate for the 6-cores and 12-threads that Gulftown and Thuban are capable of. For the rest of the CPUs that don’t have the ability to work on 6/12 threads simultaneously, the differences between performance of 8 threads and 12 threads is close to zero.
