The Galaxy GeForce GTX 465 1GB
Our friends at Galaxy were the first to drop off a pair of GeForce GTX 465 cards at our offices thankfully in time before our whirlwind trip to Asia.
The GTX 465 cards use the new Galaxy designed cooling solution that
flips out for easy cleaning. Other than that the cards we
tested were running at reference clock speeds mentioned on the previous
page: 607 MHz core clock, 1215 MHz shader clock and 1GB of GDDR5 memory
running at 3.2 GHz.
The custom Galaxy cooler design is mostly an aesthetic change from what NVIDIA had done and even though it is built out of some basic plastic it didn’t cause us any issues during installation, etc. The cards features are clearly listed on the face of it including CUDA, DX11, etc but also the minimum power supply (550w) which is nice to see.
The GeForce GTX 465 still supports 2-Way and 3-Way SLI which will be a welcome note to enthusiasts and users looking forward to NVIDIA Surround support later in the summer.
For connectivity options Galaxy has included a pair of dual-link DVI outputs as well as a single HDMI connection. With NVIDIA’s current generation of cards you are limited to two displays per card (in comparison to 3-6 with ATI Radeon 5000-series cards) though you are able to combine both DVI ports or an HDMI+DVI for your display configuration.
Here you can see the flip up action of the Galaxy GeForce GTX 465 design that might look pointless but does in fact add to the design a bit by enabling the user to better clean out dust and debris from the fan and heatsink. If you take advantage of this design feature you could be able to extend the life of your investment. Get that vacuum to work!
