AMD’s three new chipsets for the desktop have been getting press lately, especially the 890GX flagship part.  The other two, the 880G and the 870 have not been getting the same coverage but are very much a good choice for the price conscious consumer.  Legit Reviews takes a look at an 870 board, the ASRock 870 Exteme3 which still offers a lot of the benefits of the flagship 890GX.  For instance, while you are limited to a pair of PCIe 8x in CrossFire/SLI there are still 22 PCIe lanes on the motherboard for USB 3.0, eSATA and SATA 6Gb/s support.  Check out all the features and overclocking performance in the full review.

“The Asrock 870 Extreme3 is all about value and at a little over $100 US there is plenty of that on offer. Those looking at upgrading to the AM3 platform that only require a single GPU solution, which I dare say is most of you, will find that the AMD 870 chipset meets all your demands. Currently it seems that the typical AMD 870 based motherboard is selling for around $110 US, which is exactly where the 870 Extreme3 fits in.”
