SPECviewperf 11

The SPECgpcSM project group’s SPECviewperf 11 — released in late June 2010 — is totally new graphics performance evaluation software. Among the major changes are a new GUI, fully updated viewsets traced from newer versions of applications, larger models, and advanced OpenGL functionality such as shading and vertex buffer objects (VBOs).

SPECviewperf 11 is a completely different set of workloads and as such our results are shifting quite a bit.  The NVIDIA Quadro 5000 card has performance advantages that are consistently much higher than they were using revision 10 of this benchmark and that is indicative of the goal of the SPECopc to create a more GPU-strenuous suite.  In some cases the Quadro FX 4800 is still able to run well past the best from AMD’s FirePro line though for the majority of our results we see the FirePro cards as a stronger solution to it.

We will wait until we have more time for testing to see how the AMD FirePro scores are affected by the performance driver update AMD sent us last night.
