Quakecon 2010: Day 2 Coverage

Here’s part 2 of our coverage of all the sweet modded cases we browsed in the BYOC. This custom Silverstone case really popped with the gas mask outfitted with green LEDs. The interior of the case also matched the green light scheme to complete the overall effect.

This custom Lian Li case contains a watercooled XBox 360. The owner added a custom window on the right panel, temperature monitors, and extra fans for the radiator and to cool the other components in the system.

We didn’t see too many ghetto modded cases, but this one really took the top prize for ugliest, most beat up system we saw at the BYOC. It contains a VIA mini ITX motherboard and runs Ubuntu. He used a soda cap as a power switch and bolted on a couple aluminum doors to the top of the case for easy access to his hardware.

Another gamer brought in this vintage radio cabinet that hosted his file server. He modded the interior to fit a basic LGA 775 system and added a small LCD display to view files and play MP3s. Nicely done.

This custom Mountain Mods case was painted glossy black and had a triple radiator for a custom watercooling setup. There are actually two fully-functioning systems in this rig.

Lastly, we saw tons of Danger Den cases in the BYOC, but this one was one of the cleanest by far. They used glossy black acrylic for most of the panels and one clear panel to see the hardware inside. They also added a heavy duty case handle for easy transportation. We finally made it to a couple of the booths to view some of the hardware vendors had on hand and these ASUS gaming notebooks really caught our eye. The notebook on the left is an ASUS G73Jh and the one on the right is an ASUS G51Jx.

NVIDIA’s 3D Vision technology was also on available for gamers to test out on a single LCD display. 3D gaming isn’t just for gamers with multi-monitor configurations, but also for single-monitor solutions as well.

Last, but not least, we wanted to ensure our readers get their daily dose of Quakecon girls. Each one of the ladies above is actually into gaming and were on hand throughout the event to play with gamers and share their favorite PC and console titles.

Here are a couple more while they were on the main stage in the exhibition hall discussing their favorite games. The ladies shown above are Kat, Cami, and  Jenna. 

Stephanie and Magen also shared their favorite console games, which drew boos from the crowd of hardware PC gamers. LOL. That’s pretty much it from Day 2.
