Final Thoughts and ConclusionsIt’s been a long time in the waiting for the new PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk II 950W power supply. The unit demonstrated very good efficiency, excellent voltage regulation, and reliable cooling but really disappointed us with mediocre AC ripple suppression – not what we would consider “extremely tight and well regulated electrical noise and ripple”. The Silencer Mk II 950 can deliver up to 83.4A (1,000W) of +12V continuous power and can support up to three, high-end video cards with six PCI-E connectors. The build quality of the Mk II 950 power supply is good and backed by PC Power & Cooling’s 7-year warranty.
The new Silencer Mk II 950W power supply is currently available with a list price of $250 USD.
At the end of the day we are left feeling somewhat disappointed. The Silencer Mk II 950W PSU is certainly a good power supply but doesn’t live up to the high standards that PC Power & Cooling has established for themselves over the years. The two main weaknesses in our opinion are mediocre AC ripple and noise suppression and a high selling price. There are several other PSUs currently on the market in this power range that offer similar or better performance at a lower price. I’m left feeling like I just reviewed an OCZ power supply labeled with the PC Power & Cooling name and price sticker – not quite what I was expecting or hoping for.
