“That being said, the new HD 6970 and HD 6950 have some great performance results. The HD 6970 was able to compete very well against the similarly priced GeForce GTX 570 and even beat it in many of our tests including the once-NVIDIA-dominated Metro 2033 title. In that instance, the HD 6970 was almost able to keep up with the GTX 580 priced at least a $150 higher on the graphics card scale. It’s close but if I were to select a winner in the battle between the HD 6970 and the GTX 570, I would likely go with the new AMD option.”Here are some more Graphics Card articles from around the web:

AMD’s next generation, the 6970 and 6950
It can feel to the hardware junkie that the graphics world has been a little slow lately. We have seen plenty of refreshes to existing lineups and optimizations to existing chips but as far as brand new technology goes it has been relatively quiet. Today your desires will be met by the brand spanking new Cayman architecture present on the new Radeon 6970 and 6950. This is no refresh, these cards sport completely new features and some unique power saving features that attempt to keep the card cooler and quieter while not having a deleterious effect on performance. Ryan saw that in his testing, with the card consuming more power than AMD’s previous generation, but producing faster results and thus demonstrating increased efficiency. The price is right; more expensive and faster than the GTX570 and cheaper than the GTX580, which is faster overall but not by much.
