HD Tach Hard Drive and USB

This aging, but still useful benchmark takes a closer look at HD and USB performance.  Both USB 2.0 and 3.0 performance was tested using the Sharkoon USB 3.0 HD Dock and a fast 1TB 7200 RPM drive.  A second drive was used for SATA-6G performance figures rather than just using the boot drive.

In an interesting switch, the Extreme board shows a marked increase in burst reads over the previous boards in SATA-6G mode.  The Extreme also shows a small improvement in USB 2.0 speeds over the Formula, but it is pretty minimal.  The SB850 southbridge has been out for quite some time now, and between BIOS enhancements and a fairly recently refreshed AHCI driver from AMD, it is a very solid I/O controller.
