It is still in the pre-order stage, much like my coveted Tron: Legacy Daft Punk headphones, but we are starting to see Fusion-based AMD Zacate notebooks listed on various resellers.  The first we spotted is the Acer Aspire 5253 over at Amazon.com:

The Aspire 5253 is a 15.6-in widescreen notebook with an LED-backlit screen that features the dual-core AMD E-350 Fusion APU, likely running at 1.6 GHz.  The integrated CPU/GPU combo includes Radeon HD 6310 graphics that takes advantage of 256 MB of dedicated frame buffer in addition to the 3GB of system memory the notebook includes otherwise.

Other specifications include:
  • 320GB standard HDD
  • 8x DVD writer
  • 1.3 MP camera
  • Memory card reader
  • 802.11 b/g/n wireless suppot
  • 3 USB 2.0 ports

The one disappointing feature of this machine at first glance is that it uses a 6-cell battery but only offers “up to” 3 hours and 20 minutes of battery life.  Couple that with a weight of 5.75 lbs and you really don’t get the sense that this machine is going to deliver on the promise of mobility and all-day battery life that we were hoping for with AMD Zacate platform notebooks.

There is no hard release date listed as we type this though the price point of $470 is pretty attractive for a 15.6-in machine.  Hopefully we’ll be getting a sample of Acer soon and have a review up at or near release.
