Big storage in a small package; WD’s new Scorpio Black 750GB
Even laptops need big amounts of storage, though you still need a trade off between power consumption and speed when using a platter based drive. One of the most popular solutions are Western Digital’s Scorpio Black series, which has just been updated with a 750GB model. It’s stats differ a little from the 500GB model, 375GB platters as opposed to 250GB and a slightly higher rating on its sustained transfer rate. The Tech Report’s testing did show a performance improvement and they like the 5 year warranty that WD provides but they felt the price to be a bit high in comparison to both its 500GB brother and other laptop HDD of similar size.
