As of just after midnight ET on Friday the 15th of April, we made the switch over to the new version of the PC Perspective website! This is a very exciting (and daunting) time for us here on staff, so please bear with us as we fix the little hiccups that will occur during this time. In fact, we need your help! If you see something wrong, strange or something you just plain don’t like, please leave us a comment in the are below after you have signed up for a new account.
We are counting on YOU to help make PCPer.com better for all of us!
Not only that be we are going to be giving away lots of PRIZES over the next couple of week thanks to our awesome sponsors that have stuck with us over the years. Keep hitting up the home page for the first prizes to be revealed and how to win them…
I know you will have some questions and I will try to answer the most common ones right here. If you have more, ask them in the comments and I will update this post accordingly!
- The Forums haven’t changed at all!
- Nope, not yet, but they will be altered to the same style of appearance you see here very soon along with a VB version upgrade to boot.
- Do I have to use a different login / account here on the main site rather than use my account from the forums?
- You CAN use the same username / password from the forums if you want, but you DO have to create that new account here on the main PC Perspective page, however.
- The "Latest Forums" tab on the right is empty
- Yes, we know, thanks. Working on that tighter integration with the forums!
- There seems to be a lot of overlap between the "Latest Topics" and "Latest Reviews" and the flash thingy on the home page.
- We agree and are working on ways to make it less redundant.
- The Hardware Leaderboard is missing some content…
- Yes, we are working on setting that up again today as well. Sorry about that, it will be live again very soon!

So, you can comment now and
So, you can comment now and all that jazz. What do you guys think?
Not a big fan of the new
Not a big fan of the new layout (please dont flame) been with the site since like 06, maybe it is just the familiarity, but I dont like it. It’s too flashy. I check the site for reviews / updates between 2-6 times a day.. also it wont let me log in for some reason….
Everyone is allowed to have
Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion of course, but I hope you come around to it.
What username did you register and I’ll check on it for you.
Its all good that the new
Its all good that the new layout is finally being implemented…. but why not integrate the old obdc database with the new layout (yeah its a time consuming php rerwite)….
So will I now have to maintin two login now for pcperspective; one for the site, and one for the old forum?
The hope is that will NOT be
The hope is that will NOT be the case, but for now it is, yeah… sorry! We tried to get it working previously but ran out of time (and it was a LONG time really). The VB system just didn’t play well with Drupal (the CMS at work here) and cross server database authentication was being a pain.
Hope you still like the changes here!
I know its been a long time,
I know its been a long time, several months at least, since you originally posted it as the beta site in the forums. I figured Durpal was being used since its also the main CMS used for twit.tv. Hopefully you guy’s can create a script to go through the old database and move certain data to corresponding placements within the new database and just write some extra code to filter out/truncate old forum ‘code’ from the data being transferred ( [] items).
Cheers to finally deploying the new format! I wonder how many people will be confused in the morning 😛

Check your RSS feeds Ryan, Itunes wasn’t downloading the podcast for me. I was getting https://pcper.com/rss/podcasts.rss was not found on the server. Otherwise, looking really good. I’ve been reading since amdmb.com, this change really helps the readability. Keep up the hard work!

Thank you! I’m not so happy with the overall look of the site personally, but I could easily live with it if it had a wide mode.
I think that’s one unmentioned element of what distracting people from the new redesigns of sites like Gizmodo and its sister sites. They have gotten even thinner, as if they are trying to follow after the tablets. So many people have widescreen displays now, it should at _least_ be an option.
Like the new site, just wish
Thanks for the feedback –
Thanks for the feedback – podcast feed should be fixed now.
We are definitely looking at altering some of the tabs/organization but we needed it to be nearly feature-matched with the older site in order to do the transition process.
The RSS is, but the podcast
The RSS is, but the podcast page isn’t fixed, pcper.com/podcasts works now, but it doesn’t link to correct page. And the RSS URL is not present on the podcast page itself, just inside the article (I think the info inside the RSS linking to the podcast URL and website may have been broken as well, it was last night, but for sure the article links need to be updated to the correct website URL). Please add some break html support, apparently it doesn’t work, which is why my last post had to have a “list”.
Example:
Line1
Line2
Line3
Yeah, I noticed the line
Yeah, I noticed the line break issue in your first post. We are working on that right now.
As for the podcast points, we will work on it today as well!
Very cool, most times people
Very cool, most times people don’t see that stuff, just wanted to point it out, not take away from the work you did.
Edit: Maybe the “latest review” should be an espn style ticker, too many boxes in a row right there (3 in total)

The hardware leader board
The hardware leader board only has the dream system now. I really like the new site. Cool colors. I always thought you guys had great info and insight but lacked a good looking website. Now your site reflects your skill.
