This is one of the first games to embrace tessellation, though it is primarily applied only to the Alien model. It still is a good looking game, and the benchmark features dozens of these tessellated aliens flitting happily about the scene at once. Ultra settings were used with 4X AA and 16X AF enabled.
Here we see exactly how big of an improvement there is from the HD 5870 to the R6970. The HD 6950 is hanging just below the GTX 480, but in this particular benchmark the R6970 is the top dog.

Price would be the big factor. Get nearly the same performance for $100 cheaper.
Hopefully I can get in the N580GTX Lightning in and see how hot that puppy gets with the Twin Frozr III.
Any idea what might happen to
Any idea what might happen to the frame rates if this card was matched with a Sandy Bridge i5-2400 rather than the hex core AMD? I know in some titles it wouldn’t make much of a difference but in titles like Metro 2033, Dawn of War II and Starcraft II it might help the GPU stretch its legs.

You are most likely right… which is why you should check out Ryan’s review of the unoverclocked 6970 to see how it performs with a beefier CPU.
