Power Consumption and Performance per Watt

What about power consumption?

Idle power consumption is just a couple of watts lower on the Core i7-3930K though this is going to very based on the silicon from chip to chip.  What is more important is the peak, load power draw, which remains pretty much identical to that of the Core i7-3960X.   This shouldn’t surprise anyone based on how closely the two processors performed in the majority of our testing.

Based on the above power consumption numbers and the proximity of the performance between the two Sandy Bridge-E processors, it should not shock you that they are looking pretty similar in terms of performance per watt as well.  Only Intel’s Core i7-2600K is really able to consistently butt its head into the party and most everything else, including the AMD FX-8150, is left eating some proverbial dust.
