GDC 2012 is upon us, and in addition to the Samaritan demo and some gaming goodness, we spotted a leaked image over at Legit Reviews that is allegedly a photo of a production NVIDIA GTX 670 Ti graphics card.
The cooler looks to cover the whole PCB and be of the blower design, funneling hot air of the of the front of the card and out of the case. The connectors include two DVI, one HDMI, and one Display Port. Rumors suggest that the latest NVIDIA cards will be capable of multi-display (>2) from a single card much like AMD cards have been doing for some time.
Not a whole lot is known about the upcoming GK104 "Kepler" GPUs with a good deal of certainty, but we have reported on a few leaks including that the cards will have 2 GB of GDDR5 RAM on a 256 bit memory bus, and that the cards may just be coming out in May. Due to Epic using a working Kepler GPU in their Samaritan demo, that launch date does not sound too far fetched either. On the performance front, there are conflicting rumors; some rumors state that the cards will blow AMD out of the water and other people swear the cards will not be as powerful as the rumors suggest. I suppose we’ll find out soon though!
Are you still waiting for NVIDIA’s Kepler GPUs or have you jumped on the latest Radeon series?

Oh my god. I just got a little tingle down my spine. I”m really looking forward to comparing the 690 and the 7990 for my new machine. I’d like to wait for Ivy Bridge, but I don’t think I have the patience for that. If these two cards came out soon, I would go ahead and build.
I don’t think it’s natural for a man to be this excited about GPUs.

A 256 bit 2 gig card is hardly big news. I’m kinda thinkin Nvidia is falling behind a bit.

Glad NVidia proved your instincts wrong.
I will always use Nvidia.
I will always use Nvidia. Better driver support and 3D Vision.

Overall, I’ve had superior driver experiences with NVIDIA and NVIDIA certainly has the better OpenGL support, but ATI is always a solid contender on the hardware capacity side of things.
I’m really undecided this time around. My last purchase was an HD5970 almost two years ago. Every other card I’ve ever bought in more than a decade has been an NVIDIA card (because I was burned by miserable and delayed driver support and updates from ATI around 2000. Specifically, I remember a popular RPG that game out at the time and would display nothing but a grey screen with ATI’s current card. It took three to six months for ATI to release a new driver for the card.
ATI is certainly far better these days than they were back then, though. In both brands, however, there is a great deal of disappointment in things no longer “just working”. Especially for gamers. New game won’t work? Don’t worry, we’re releasing a special one-off alpha patch that you must install on top of your beta version of the drivers. Oh, but if you play *two* games that are currently not addressed in the full release drivers, tough for you, because our one-off patches are not rolled-up, meaning that you can either play BF3 *or* Red Orchestra 2, but not *both*, until the full driver set that combines them both is released in a few weeks or next month.
Gah.

I am still patiently(well, not so patiently) waiting for the Nvidia release. My pointer has been on the buy button of the 7970 about 3 or 4 times but then the annoying logical side of my brain kicks in and i tell myself just a few more weeks.
