Guess what? Intel made money. A lot of money. This is not surprising. The results were not record breaking, but they did beat expectations. Intel had a gross revenue of $12.9 billion for the quarter, with a net income of $2.7 billion. Gross margins decreased (slightly) to 64%, but the reasons for this are pretty logical as we discover down below. Compared to Q4 2011, results are still significantly down, but this is again expected due to seasonal downturns. In Q4 they had $13.9 billion in gross revenue and $3.4 billion in net income with a gross margin of 64.5%.
They just make too much money

Well, there certainly is no reason why they should be doing any anti-competitive practices anymore. They have AMD pretty well cornered. I think Intel is correct in assuming that their big competition right now is Qualcomm/Samsung/NVIDIA. AMD is still kicking though, and I’m cautiously optimistic that Rory Read has injected some real energy into the company.
I agree with Josh on the
I agree with Josh on the intel side of things, I think it’ll be interesting to see what all AMD can do with trinity when it hits the market, the whole laptop inside of a computer case demo was kinda cool, I hope Trinity is all that it could be. Because let’s face it…Bulldozer was a flop, Nvidia’s GTX 600 series is kicking some serious power/performance stats…AMD need’s something like Trinity to go well for them.
Heh, the AMD results article
Heh, the AMD results article should go live soon. This one is a much more in-depth read, primarily because AMD was much more forthcoming with information during their conference call and Q&A.
Also, the more I think about AMD and NVIDIA with their current gen products, the more I like both of them. The two companies have nicely differentiated their products, and they offer some real advantages over the other that will appeal to different users. I like the overall sense of differentiation all the while keeping prices near each other. Competing on price alone gets boring!
