One of the most frequent questions we get on the PC Perspective Podcast and This Week in Computer Hardware is what component of their PCs a user should be looking to upgrade. No matter what configuration they mention to us, one of the first things that crosses my mind is the monitor.
You would likely be surprised how many users are still using lower resolution and smaller screens – the Valve Hardware Survey tells us that 27% of gamers are using either 1366×768 or 1280×1024 resolutions on their primary screens!
If you are one of those people or are maybe looking for a step up to a larger display, you might be interested in today’s deal, a 27-in Planar PX2710MW 1080p LCD monitor.
You can grab this display through LogicBuy and Dell for $209 using the coupon code on the LogicBuy.com site.
This same monitor is available on Amazon.com for $269 (with great reviews as well!) giving this deal from LogicBuy a lot more credibility!
I’m one of those dummies
I’m one of those dummies still running 1280×1024 and am looking to upgrade, and while 27″ would be a huge upgrade from my 19″, i think 1080p is a little low res for a screen that size.
Thanks for the tip. I have
Thanks for the tip. I have been itching for a 27inch display for a few weeks.
Now the question: Do I get a second 6950 and run them in crossfire or go for a 7950?
I couldn’t see if it was tn
I couldn’t see if it was tn or ips, or if it was lcd or fluorescent.
TN as far as Google tells me

It’s TN. Serious gamers would only be interested in a true 120Hz screen, which this isn’t.
The viewing angles on TN are pretty horrific, and that’s only going to be more true, when the screen is 27″, if you intend to sit anywhere close to the thing. At such a size, even when viewed head on, the top and bottom of the screen will have different gamma brightness values. Better sit well back and keep your head still!
TN is bad enough on 15″ laptop screens, but when it gets to screens of this size it really has no place on the desktop unless you really don’t give a hoot about image quality and want the largest and cheapest screen possible. Ugh. Better to get a 23″ IPS screen for the same price..
Thanks guys, that’s exactly
Thanks guys, that’s exactly why I was asking. Sometimes a good deal isn’t.
