While this move could hurt AMD's bottom line, there is only good news for gamers looking to upgrade their system with a new (or another) GPU from AMD. With the release of NVIDIA's GTX 660 Ti at a price close to that of the HD 7870 and performance closer to an HD 7950, AMD has once again cut the pricing of their cards. The price cuts should kick in by the end of the week, so hold off purchasing those cards for another week to benefit from the new pricing and to give NVIDIA a chance to respond as well.
You've gotta love it when graphics hardware pricing starts trending away from the $500 mark!
****Update****
There are two HD7950 available on NewEgg for $320, though if you include MIR this XFX model is the least expensive while most others are sitting at $330 after MIR. The 7870 GHz editions are starting to move towards the $230 mark which is better than promised and seem to have pushed the HD7850 out of the picture at $210 as that extra $20 gets you a lot more performance.
Be sure to check out our reviews on these recent graphics cards to find out which fit your specific needs!

Oh excellent timing, I just started my next computer build on a budget and was going to go with the 7850 now the 7870 is in my price range.
Can anyone explain to me why
Can anyone explain to me why the 810MHz/5000MHz AMD 7950 is $100 more than the card at 900MHz/5000MHz?

That is a mistake.
That is a mistake.
That 7950 needs to drop
That 7950 needs to drop another $20-$30.
why? is Nvidia dropping the
why? is Nvidia dropping the 660 Ti price to $250 soon?
sweet prices, the 7870 and 7950 are great deals,
7950 when overclocked is a beast that can keep up with the more expensive cards with no problems,
“You’ve gotta love it when
“You’ve gotta love it when graphics hardware pricing starts trending away from the $500 mark!”
Except AMD pulled the original 7970 from its $549 MRSP (was it?), to $429, only to later give it a new BIOS, a new name, and a $500 price tag.
Or did you mean the cards that were already way under $500 are moving further away from $500?
Both … I can deal with the
Both … I can deal with the flagship cards being $500 but I was unhappy with the way the 2nd tier and lower cards have been creeping up in price over the past generation or 2.

I think their chart is a trifle optimistic: don’t they need to shuffle their side down one step?
Optimism is key to success,

I have been split between the
I have been split between the 7870 and 7950 prior to the 660TI release. These price cuts make it a little tougher. I may lean towards the 7950 which provides more VRAM, bigger memory bus and a lot more overclocking room than the 660TI.

I just bought a Radeon card 2 days ago. I guess I just got screwed.
Would love to see the 7070
Would love to see the 7070 drop a bit. I would gladly buy an AMD card again if that was the case. I’m kind of tired of my ASUS GTX570, the fact that it takes up 3 lanes makes me depressed every time i open up the case.
Anyone know of a site that
Anyone know of a site that has a massive array of GPU benchmarks? I know Tom’s Hardware has something like this but if it’s been updated with this year’s benchmarks, I don’t see them.
What I want to do is compare my 4 year old yet top of the line AMD card (I don’t recall the model # unfortunately, I have a set and forget mind) to a budget or mid-range nVidia card, since I wouldn’t mind picking up some physx here or there.
The only thing is I have 3 monitors, and they’re all totally different sizes and refresh rates, I don’t know if I can mimic my current setup with an nVidia card.
Nevermind, I found basically
Nevermind, I found basically what I needed over at tom’s hardware with a little fiddling.

The chart makes AMD look
The chart makes AMD look good, but in reality the cards they compare themselves to really should all be a tier up on the chart. The Nvidia 670 is just as good as the AMD 7970.
AMD Is cheap because it’s
AMD Is cheap because it’s crap. That’s why AMD PCs are cheaper, along with their graphics cards.
And I assume by your well
And I assume by your well thought out logic that as soon as Nvidia starts offering great prices, then that will be valid reason for the AMD fanbois to validly claim that Nvidia are producing nothing but crap. If you can do it so can they — the bottom line is that your all just a bunch of emotional baby momma’s boys whining about who’s “dad” is better (which y’all likely still do in your free time), with no proper reasoning skillz.
Fanbois are just lozers and will always be. Comments like yours provide all the evidence needed. Stop commenting — you’ll seem a lot smarter 😉
