EVGA SuperNOVA Monitoring and Control Software

EVGA’s new SuperNOVA NEX1500 Classified 1500W PSU is a smart power supply that uses EVGA’s SuperNOVA software, which allows you to monitor voltage and current draw on each rail, power used, efficiency, and allows you to change the fan speed profile and adjust the +12V outputs. The NEX1500 PSU incorporates a built-in USB interface that connects to a USB header on the PC’s motherboard via the included USB cable.

For testing purposes we connected the NEX1500 to one of our CPU cooler test PCs that had the SuperNOVA software installed using a simple USB adapter and 16’ extension cable. This allowed us to monitor the NEX1500 while it was connected up to all of the programmable loads during testing.

Installing the EVGA SuperNOVA software was a snap and we were up and running in less than two minutes.

The SuperNOVA software runs on your PC’s desktop and can be configured to display data in two, four, or six windows. Each window can be configured to display one of over a dozen different parameters. Note: The OC mode can only be enabled if the NEX1500 PSU is being supplied with 230VAC.

This is a screenshot of the SuperNOVA dashboard during test #4 while the NEX1500 is delivering a 1,125W combined load. We have the dashboard configured to display: Efficiency, Fan Speed, +12V Voltage, +12V Current, +3.3V Voltage, and +5V Voltage. Most of the readings are a little on the high side (efficiency, voltage, etc.) but were within a couple percentage points of our actual measured values. In this test, the +12V Current reading of 88.25A was very close to our measured value of 88.31A; that’s impressive!

Here are a couple more screenshots of the SuperNOVA dashboard illustrating the ability to adjust the +12V rail, select different fan speed profiles, and graph the selected parameter.

Overall, I was very impressed with the look, function, and flexibility of the SuperNOVA software; good job guys!

Note: The latest version of SuperNOVA software can be downloaded from the EVGA website (Win7, Win XP and Vista).
