While we do not have the finalized results of AMD's Q3 earnings, The Register did report that they will not be meeting the targets that were set previously. The are lowering both expected revenues as well as their gross margins projections. While this news is not unexpected it does illustrate the difficulties which AMD is currently experiencing. With new products already for sale and more scheduled for release before the new year, there is still hope for AMD to make a bit of a recovery. As we have pointed out many times before, whether you purchase AMD products or not, the continued existence of AMD is crucial to keep the marketplace competitive.

AMD still has a strong GPU
AMD still has a strong GPU product, and that should help them through the rough spots, AMD should consider combining the ARM processor with their GPU technology for low power devices! AMD should also look into a partnership/support agreement with Adapteva and their Epiphany Multicore IP, as a ultra low power/cost way to compete with Intel’s xeon phi. AMD also needs to develop, as soon as possable a high speed external interconnect to compete with thunderbolt, Even if this means getting a 10 gigabit ethernet card into laptops. It is, at this time, AMD’s only option to form a industry partnership with ARM and others to be able to compete with Intel. AMD founding the HSA foundation is best thing for computing! AMD should also look into using an ARM and x86 hybrid chip that can run android and x86 code along with their GPUs.
