Wireless Performance – Torture Test
The Torture Tests truly put router and adapter to the test as the signal has to find its way through walls, floors across a long distance into the far away Laundry Room of Wi-Fi Doom. As expected we ran into problems immediately and in some cases could not even get a connection, so let’s see how the routers and adapters coped with the Torture Test.
5 GHz is not the best at punching through walls and floors, and this test shows it. The ASUS USB-N66 proves its metal again and is the only one that even got a connection to the Apple Airport at 5 GHz. Not only did it get a connection, but it got decent speeds to boot.
Moving to 2.4 GHz, we finally have some Torture Test results to compare. The Amped UA2000 does well in both 1 and 2 plug setups across the board, only getting beaten by the ASUS USB-N66 in Maximum download/upload speeds.
Moving to the Amped Wireless R20000G router, we see very similar results to what we saw with the Apple Airport at 5 GHz. Once again, the only adapter even able to find and connect to the network was the ASUS USB-N66. Speeds when connected to the R20000G were noticeably slower than the test results we saw with the N66 and the Apple 5 GHz.
Like 5 GHz, we see similar, but often slower, results at 2.4 GHz that we did with the Apple Airport. The Amped UA2000 in the 2 plug configuration in particular saw a drastic speed drop at 2.4 GHz across upload and download speeds.
As usual, the Torture Test gave the routers and adapters a day they’ll not forget in a while.

seems okay but that AP and wifi adapter is really overpriced. Wanted to also add that it is becoming more common for many upper end consumer level routers to have 600mw transmit power. Before I purchase, I usually look at the FCCID and check for it’s transmit power and if it does not have external antennas, then I also check for U.fl connectors. (replacing a crappy internal antenna on a high end router from linksys or netgear with a quality 5-7dbi antenna will significantly improve your coverage and performance.
PS if you have a single level home, a 9dbi rp-sma omni directional = awesomeness.

While I haven’t used this particular device I’ve recently had to communicate with their technical support department regarding another device and I was impressed with the quality of their North American support department. The support representatives seemed to really care about my success with their equipment so I figured I’d throw that in there in the event its meaningful in considering their products.
