Great podcast as always! I appreciate the varied news!
Couple comments on cores/bits —
ARM64 is just as much about performance as it is memory scalability. The original ARM 32-bit chip is almost as old as x86, and ARM 64-bit adds a lot of beef around the memory register area which should help alleviate bottlenecks in the 32-bit architecture.
# of Cores — Not so sure Intel/AMD/ARM are moving too quickly to multiple cores. We didn’t really see dual core desktop/laptop chips until ~ 2005. If you built (for example) a dual socket Pentium 1 or MMX system back 8-9 years earlier you’d definitely notice a much smoother OS due to background processes having a place to go.
On the mobile devices, if they were a little more performance oriented such that 2 cores really ramped to appreciably higher frequencies than 4 cores (unlike Tegra 3), and the OS would resist temptation to activate core #3 when 2 faster cores would perform best, you could have the best of both worlds with 4 core silicon, especially given that even a performance oriented ARM core won’t be that large since it has to be engineered for low wattage, and low wattage usually means you can’t have too many transistors flipping..
With regards to the IdeaPad
With regards to the IdeaPad Yoga. I agree with being wary about using the computer in tablet mode. This does expose the keyboard. But they have an OEM case thats “second use case” solves this very problem. Check it out in their vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVRt5KhRh_M
The second use case starts at about 8:44 in. I think they have done a great job with this convertible.
I owe ideapad from Lenovo,
I owe ideapad from Lenovo, how can it be used for creating podcast?
Thanks!
