New to the site (great podcast btw) and not sure how to submit a question for the podcast, so please forgive me for asking the question here.
For Intel’s upcoming Haswell processors, if you are running a beefy GPU like a GTX 680, what does Haswell do with the on-chip “GPU”? Does it just sit idle and not share the work? Is it just wasted compute power?
Or, if you do have dedicated GPU, can you designate the Haswell “GPU” to run only Phys X or other ways to have Haswell share the GPU burden with a dedicated actual graphics card?
Thanks

Think of Haswell like one of
Think of Haswell like one of the earlier terminator models. The goal is to crush AMD and Nvidia not to help you intergrate their product to make your Nvidia experience better. Once you buy enough intel stuff based on reviews of 2% better performance but twice the build cost and AMD goes under intel will decide what you buy and you can pick from one of their insanely expensive 4 options. Face it, if it wasn’t for insanely rich oil billionaires you would already be in this situation. If Intel crushes eveyone the justice department will be our only hope for competition because it costs billions to build a fab and the infrastucture costs, patent barriers, and the knowledge will be lost like a world without humans. Intel bigots are poping up everywhere and there is no future for system builders. If you put that extra money you save on a AMD cpu and AMD motherboard into your systems video card You would not only have a better gaming experience but likely keep competition alive.
