Final Thoughts and Conclusions
Like all it’s X-Series predecessors, the new Seasonic Platinum 660W power supply incorporates significant advances in PC power supply design that result in excellent performance, high efficiency and the ability to operate in silent-fanless mode at lower power levels. Add to that a 7-year warranty, a good assortment of all modular cables, tight voltage regulation, clean DC outputs and you have one very good power supply! However, as you might expect, a premium Platinum efficiency certified PSU is going to be relatively expensive.
The Seasonic Platinum 660W power supply is currently selling for $149.99 USD (Newegg.com, December 2012).
Strengths:
• Outstanding voltage regulation
• Excellent efficiency across a broad range of loads (80Plus Platinum certified)
• Very low AC ripple even at 100% load
• Silent, fanless operation at lower power levels
• Quiet operation at mid to upper power levels
• Single +12V output can deliver up to 55A/660W
• Four PCI-E connectors (6/8-pin) and two 4+4 pin/8-pin ATX/EPS
• 7-Year warranty
• Active PFC with universal AC input
• All modular, flat ribbon-style cables with gold-plated connectors
Minor Weaknesses:
• Platinum efficiency costs a little more

Just got two of these and both of them had coils noise and one also coil whine. Sent them back, very disappointed. (Tested on several platforms and the noise was persistend, even on professional APC UPS)
If your unit produces coil
If your unit produces coil whine or noise, the fix is often to enter BIOS and make sure all power saving options are turned on.
Of course, if yours is defective that is another issue.
I had coil noise even when
I had coil noise even when using a paperclip to start the PSU. It’s more annoying than any fan.
How about the Seasonic
How about the Seasonic SS-760XP2 (Platinum 760) in this series? How’s the performance, any issues, coil noise or fan loudness or performance issues?
Thanks.
