While Crysis 3 is an incredible benchmarking tool, bringing even the new TITAN to its knees when played on multiple monitors it was actually designed to be a game that you play. With Crysis 2 being such a disappointment to PC gamers after the incredible sandbox which was Crysis, many gamers are a little leery of paying full price for the third installment. Techgage recently published a review of the game, all 6 hours or so of playtime. The suit and weapons upgrade system returns, with the Strength power returning from the first game for those who like a more physical game. They also added an unfortunate hacking mini-game and the AI might be better than Colonial Marines but is still in need of some polishing. Multiplayer is strong, as anyone who tried out the Alpha or Beta can attest to but for the single player you should read through the review if you are on the fence about purchasing this game.
"Following the events of Crysis 2, we find ourselves back in New York – but this time, things have changed. The city has turned into an urban rainforest, and while CELL is working towards global domination, Ceph continue their war against humanity. Only one man can save mankind: “They call me Prophet”."

I’m still on the fence. I
I’m still on the fence. I think this will make my GTX 680 cry uncle.
It really depends on what
It really depends on what you’re asking your GTX 680 to do. I just got a 7970 and can play with all settings set to “Very High”, but it’s at 1080p and I turn off AA (I play on my 60″ HDTV 8 feet back so it’s good enough). But gaming at 1440p with 8x MSAA or triple monitors? You’ll be looking at one hell of an expensive slideshow.
That said, besides the silly rope physics bugs that apparently exist on the first level, I’ve been very pleased with the performance my new card gave me and probably won’t upgrade for a few years.
I was being facetious. I
I was being facetious. I know my system can easily handle this game on my single monitor. I was just surprised on how well a multi-monitor triple SLI TITAN setup did.
The game looks good, but it’s hard nowadays to swollow a $60 pill for a game when there are some free to play options out there you can easily enjoy. I’m still smarting from spending $65 on SW:TOR and 3 months of subscription from it’s release, such a big waste of money. That left a very bad taste in my mouth… I do enjoy planeside 2, especially now they’ve activated some minor physics in the game and squashed a lot of the bugs. I was so pleased, I upped my sub from a normal one game sub to an all station access and I’m playing some of the other SOE lines ups.
Now if Origin sends me a game coupon for Crysis 3, that would sweeten the deal and I’ll probably buy it. Until then, I’ll just watch from the fence line 🙂 and save my money for some of the other games that are coming out later this year.
I was able to get through it
I was able to get through it in 5.5hours on normal.
Well apparently AMD doesn’t
Well apparently AMD doesn’t think so. I bought a Radeon 7950 with the intention of playing the free Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite until exhaustion. I even took a week off to have time to devote to some serious gaming for most of the week.
Turns out “with the purchase of any 7900 series card” means “with the purchase of some 7900 series cards”. I didn’t go to AMD’s website and read the fine print before I bought one of their new vidcards (since it said “any”), and they do not mean any in the literal sense, they mean “any” in the sense of “when you buy from this one partner we have in your region, that happens to sell very expensive cards”.
Well, a fool and his money…
Guess I’ll be watching TV for a week :/
Oh man, sorry to hear that,
Oh man, sorry to hear that, that really sucks. You can’t return the card and re-purchase one with the game bundle and opt for 1 day or 2 day shipping?
No.
It’s more or less the
No.
It’s more or less the same old shitty bean as the second one.
I’ll stick with my old ole Painkiller MP. 🙂
This game is awesome!! It’s
This game is awesome!! It’s making my 7950 cry at VHQ setting. Bump it down to High I will.
I haven’t found Crysis
I haven’t found Crysis compelling, ever. I bought the first one, but only long after it was launched. Everything about the game just seemed generic as hell — other than how good it looked. I only played the first couple hours or so and haven’t gone back to it.
I bought Crysis 2 on launch, but they had such massive problems for the first few weeks that it was pretty unplayable. The lighting was completely messed up (to the point that things where lighting should be, it was just pure black colors). Crossfire (I was running an AMD 5970 at the time) was totally broken. What little I did play of it (two or three hours, maybe) was not very impressive. The AI was painfully stupid (and also unfairly aware of certain elements that compounded the problem). The game and story was, again, terribly generic. By the time the graphical/performance bugs were fixed, I’d already long since uninstalled Crysis 2.
When Crysis 3 came out, I probably would have bought it and played it just to really push my triple-SLI 4gb 670s at 2560×1600. Unfortunately, it wasn’t available on Steam (as I guess will be the case for all EA games going forward, since they are packing in-game purchases in 100% of games in the future and Steam doesn’t allow that) — and I have zero interest in buying more crap on yet another digital distribution system that requires yet another application to be running with yet another set of credentials — Origin.
So. No. I have no interest in it. The game is generic. The story is generic. The graphics are beautiful. There are other games I can play to get the beautiful part, though — and they’ll be more compelling experiences.
Can’t agree more
Can’t agree more really.
Those repetitive forest areas of the first one sucked so much shit there were even more mind numbing than one of the shitty albums of Ozzy…
Warhead was great, but that’s about it.
I will when its 10 bucks on
I will when its 10 bucks on Origin.
Playing this on GTX 680 SLI @
Playing this on GTX 680 SLI @ 2560×1440 and it’s spectacular. It’s no surprise that I am enjoying it but 3 of my mates are playing too and all say they are having a blast.
This game isn’t as demanding
This game isn’t as demanding as some people make it out to be.
With that old and watered down engine of the second one… a heavily OC’ed 7950 (over 7970 speeds) with Volterra VRM will eat up this game for breakfast, dinner and lunch…
it’s ironic how a good amount of it’s textures look like total shit since the engine was built up as a console game with PS3 in mind… seriously, if you want Crysis, buy Warhead. Then DL all the graphics and 3RD party level mods for it. It’ll bring down pretty much ANY setup down to it’s knees, and will easily be a better experience than this game
Unlike Crysis 2, Crysis 3 was
Unlike Crysis 2, Crysis 3 was built from the ground up for DX11. On Very High with only FXAA on a X79 system with 16GB of ram and GTX 680s in SLI @ 2560×1440 I am only getting around 54 FPS.
There is no way that this was built with the PS3 in mind, the console version doesn’t even compare to the PC on low.
You don’t seem to understand
You don’t seem to understand the basics of these things.
The ENGINE, the game uses, WAS and IS built for a PS3 to run it.
And this game straight out uses the exact same engine as the second one. The fact that it’s DX11 only doesn’t mean jack shit as a part of it’s textures look worse than shit… it still packs those DX8 looking textures, and the game is nowhere as demanding as you’re making it out to be.
As I said, a SINGLE, “heavily” OC’ed 7950 will have NO issues running this game on high at 1920×1080 with 4X AA.
And if you don’t believe it, go ahead and do some research. A single 680 has no trouble maxing this game out.
You are mistaken. The game
You are mistaken. The game engine was built to run on PC. The cosole versions are then neutered to enable them to run without looking like a slideshow. This is a common technique. DICE did the same for BF3.
I also don’t consider an average of 44fps @ 1080p acceptable for a PC game.
I’m
I’m not:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0hkSsBNlNc
It was the exactly other way around. The engine was SOLELY built for a PS3 to render it. The first physics demos that ever came out for Cry 2 in 2009 were rendered on PS3, so was the entire game itself which was built upon consoles, which was why it was DX9 only and looked like absolutely shit.
They then had to pack up and DX11 patch it half assed…
And what average 44FPS at
And what average 44FPS at 1080P are you talking about anyway? A single “heavily OC’ed” 680 can and does keep this game over 60 FPS at all times with high settings and x4 AA on 1920×1080.
Just once I’d like it if a
Just once I’d like it if a major developer did not depend on its fanbase to fix the game for them. Not happening with this game but at least people are fixing it. I’m still waiting on an actual benchmark feature in this “benchmark video game” before I even think about picking it up for myself. Even the Sleeping Dogs **FREE DEMO** offers benchmark maps to run.
I’m ready for the next true PC insanely high graphics game; Just Cause 3.
Origin = Automatic No
Origin = Automatic No Buy
Like I’m ever going to buy into any sort of DRM that EA ever implements. If you ever want my money again EA either sell it DRM free or sell it on Steam.
Yea I was considering this
Yea I was considering this game a buddy of mine was having a good time, but as soon as I saw origin it was an instant turn off.
