It was only a matter of time before Windows Blue was leaked, like just about every other version of the operating system in recent memory. Internally, Blue is a transition for Microsoft into an annual release schedule for Windows products; externally, Blue is the first feature-release for Windows.
Yes, Sean Bean, win'ders has come.
Zac from WinBeta, embed above, got hold of the operating system, apparently leaked today, and played around with the changes for all of YouTube to see.
New split-screen App options. (Unclear whether multi-monitor app support is fixed)
- Minor clarifications for user instruction.
- New tile sizes.
- Swipe up from Start Screen to access list of apps.
- More personalization options.
- Picture frame mode.
- New App: Calculator.
- New App: Alarm.
- New App: Sound Recorder.
- New App: Movie Moments… apparently a new, confidential, video editing application.
- Internet Explorer updated to version 11.
Personally, despite sticking with Windows 7 for political reasons, the new App options seem like they would be the most engaging feature for Windows Blue. For being such a core segment of the "modern" Windows experience, apps are surprisingly annoying to manage as they currently exist on Windows 8. If you have two or more monitors then you are probably having a nightmare with anything outside of Windows 8's desktop mode.
We now know that app support is being looked at, so there is some hope that multiple monitor users will be considered too.
Oh good, now you can run two
Oh good, now you can run two apps at the same time! Wow!
Before you know it, you’ll be able to run 3, then 4…then things will get cluttered so we’ll put the apps in arbitrary, modular containers that stack on top of each other and have some other universal features like resizing, maximizing to take up the full screen, and hiding to let other apps take focus.
What in the world would we call such a container?
Microsoft will have to work
Microsoft will have to work really hard in order for most people to switch from Windows 7.
I see no reason to change
I see no reason to change from win 7 which came on this computer. Maybe, if I could use gestures to control the system. My 30 inch monitor doesn’t do touch and I love, love, love my monitor! To be fair I’m not going to want to do another upgrade as long as this machine is showing nothing I do is using even half it’s resources. What am I going to gain? So far as I can see, nothing. Sure I have a traditional hard drive but I also use ready boost so it might take more seconds to boot but coming out of hibernate using ready boost is PDQ so why am I supposed to want a tiny SSD for more money? I do have a computer with an SSD. When I boot it may save me a few seconds but at what price? The reset of the time the fact this machine has more ram and a more powerful CPU means it wins hands down. I guess I’m overlooking something that is supposed to be worth hundreds and limited storage but I don’t see it.
until everyone has a touch
until everyone has a touch screen as their main monitor, Win 8 is a DOWNGRADE from Win 7.
Faster boot times? With an SSD no one gives a shit.
I’m not willing to pay to advance beta test for M$ just so they can fix things for Win 9.
Win 8 sucks, these blue updates are superficial.
There’s no reason to “upgrade” from Win 7.
Win8 just another Vista.
I need general purpose
I need general purpose Professional OS to run on my computer and not some point of sale kiosk OS! Windows 8 is not an OS, what it is is an app store UI stapled on to a disfunctional heap of bypolar APIs! Until M$ gets that CPU cycle eating bird’s nest off of new laptops and PCs expect sales of new hardware to remain in the crapper! Any thing short of the windows 7 UI and API just will not be of any use to me and many others!
P.S. Does anyone at pcper Know what happened with the AMD A300/A320 FirePro branded APUs! I need a cheep and good 3D modeling PC that can handle at least 2 million polygons in the Blender 3d edit mode, Just for editing 3d models, not rendering!
And Now! M$ has decided to
And Now! M$ has decided to put some blue lipstick on that pig and call it a new and improved supermodel! Yes M$, you can put that pig on the most fashonable New York runway, but its still going to run off and waddle in the first mud puddle it can find!
