DiRT 3 (DirectX 11)

A continuation of the Colin McRae series, but without his name, DiRT 3 is one of the top racing games in the world and offers stunning imagery along with support for features of DirectX 11.

Our settings for DiRT 3

DiRT 3 at 4K resolution isn't showing as much of a difference between the GTX Titan and the other competitors with the HD 7970 something around 10 FPS slower.

All of the frame time results are consistent in DiRT 3 without any stutter or runt problems.

The GTX Titan averages about 53 FPS at 3840×2160 with all settings maxed out and the Radeon HD 7970 is 18% slower with an average of 45 FPS or so.  The GTX 680s, in both 2GB and 4GB variations, fall to 40 FPS.

Noting the scale on the left of 3 ms maximum, there are no frame variance issues to speak of here.

CrossFire continues to have problems with runt frames, resulting in the much lower observed frame rates.  With that in mind, the GTX Titans are obviously the fastest options here with the GTX 680s in SLI coming in pretty closely at second place.

The frame time graph shows you the mess that is AMD's CrossFire producing alternating runt and large frames.  Even if the animation is "smooth" you are getting much lower observed frame rates than FRAPS would be reporting.  The Titans and GTX 680s produce very good results with only the occasional spike.

Now we're talking!  DiRT 3 at 3840×2160 over 90 FPS is an outright incredible experience!  The GTX 680s produce another great experience with an average at 75 FPS.

Frame variance is pretty low for all three NVIDIA configuration but things look bad for AMD's Radeon HD 7970 after the 80th percentile.
