7-Zip Compression

I decided to replace the WinRAR test with a more repeatable and threaded application – 7-Zip.

Another solid result set with the A4-5000 that scales well with additional threads; you can see that the jump from 2 to 4 gets a performance jump of 71% on the Kabini architecture but only 27% on the Core i3-2105 as we are seeing HyperThreading advantages exclusively.  Yes, the desktop part is much faster (about a factor of 2) but for the power budgets the A4-5000 continues to impress.

 

TrueCrypt Encryption

TrueCrypt is one of the most popular pieces of software for disk encryption and it includes a handy benchmark mode to test the capabilities of your processor. Keep in mind that many modern CPUs include AES acceleration which is used throughout TrueCrypt.

This is great news for AMD!  Because the A4-5000 has support for AES acceleration in the hardware, but Intel has disabled that on the Core i3-3227U, the Kabini part is actually running 300+% faster!  Even in the average result scores, where the acceleration is only applicable in a few cases, the A4-5000 is able to stay within 26% of the desktop Core i3-2105.
