The first bug reported about Ubuntu has been closed, it was titled "Microsoft has a majority market share" and could be easily reproduced.
"1. Visit a local PC store
2. Attempt to buy a machine without any proprietary software"
The bug has now been updated to "Fix Released", thanks to the fact that the definition of computer has greatly increased in breadth over the past few years. Smartphones are running predominantly non-Microsoft OSes and the availability of iOS and Android tablets have really turned the market in a new direction. Now it is possible to pick up a computer that is good enough for casual usage which has no Microsoft software installed whatsoever. Finding white box laptops with no installed OS is still uncommon but nowhere near as rare as it once was. Slashdot links to his full post here.
"Mark Shuttleworth of Ubuntu fame has closed the primal bug on Launchpad, standing since 2004 and titled 'Microsoft has a majority market share,' due to the 'changing realities' of tablets, smartphones, and wearable computing."

Google switching to debian
Google switching to debian wheezy, for its cloud services, is the good writing on the wall, as far as Linux is concerned! How much longer will Google Chrome OS remain as Google’s #1 chonce of OS for Google, on its chromebook pixel, or cromebooks! Why Google could probably save just as much, as they will be saving on development costs for their cloud business, by switching to a full Linux distro as their OS of choice on the consumer side! A chromebook pixel, with full hardware driver support, and Linux, running Blender for me, for graphics, it could also come with the latest AMD APUs and UMA , and a more HSA friendly OS In Linux, to go along with AMDs and Other Industry members of the HSA movement! HSA hardware/drivers/OSs, built around Linux, and running x86, ARM, or other CPUs/APUs that are HSA compliant, made up of devices that automatically utilize any of their CPUs and their GPUs for GPGPU compute, or graphics! These HSA computing platforms will, automatically, when connected to each other, share computing power, and OS management as if they are one computing platform, giving their users instant Asymmetric multiprocessing computing! HSA and Linux, open hardware standards and open software standards!
google is dead set on one
google is dead set on one thing.
they don’t want you to have an OS, just their products.
google is not your linux bff, they want to erase that too. BORG!

Google, is going to be saving lots of development money by going to Linux, why would Google Not want to! I am sure that cromebooks can have a full Linux Distro installed on them, so why would Google not want to sell a device with a popular Linux distro, and save megabucks on development costs! People that do not want to use a laptop with a M$ TAX, could just by a Google cromebook and install Linux, and why would Google not want to stick it to M$, GOOD, and start offering laptops with a FULL linux Distro! Give ME a Google Cromebook Pixel with the Newer AMD APU with hUMA, and much better than Intel Graphics, and Tell the WINTEL wintel alliance to get lost! Google is starting this process with their switch to Debian Wheezy for their cloud services!

Cloud services running Debian Wheezy, next the city of Boston is buying cromebooks with Debian Linux, and saving megabucks, all while not having TIFKAM shuved down their throats, and avoiding the M$ TAX, take that, you knuckle dragging monkey from Redmond, now go toss some chairs!
The number of non-Microsoft
The number of non-Microsoft based devices in my house easily swamp the two desktops and two laptops that run Windows 7 (3) and Windows Vista (1).
Those non-Microsoft devices are also seeing a lot more use each day. They are used daily for talking, watching videos, games, email, web surfing, reading books, listening to music, and buying stuff on-line.
The Windows based devices only get powered on 3-4 times a week for some video games and to update our finances in Quicken.
Microsoft is slowly becoming irrelevant. Win8 is accelerating that decline.
Great.
Now all Linux needs to
Great.
Now all Linux needs to do is squash the only nerds use this OS bug.
Seriously, until hot chicks are consistently using Linux, it’s a dead OS to the masses.
Can’t wait for all the nerds who don’t take showers and hardly get laid chime in response.
Bring it!
No it is not the Masses, its
No it is not the Masses, its just YOU, hot chicks could care less about what OS you use, and the swetty fat knuckle dragging monkey from redmond, just might cause the Hot Chicks, to start noticing what a really gross OS 8 truly is! Will M$ ever squash, its biggest BUG, Being M$!
Eh, both IOS and Android
Eh, both IOS and Android devices contain proprietary software don’t they?
