It's apparent that the 4K war is really starting to heat up. Just a few months ago we looked a the $1300 50" SEIKI SE50UY04 TV, and were impressed for the low price. Then, at Computex this year, ASUS announced both 31.5" and 39" 4K monitors. While the $4000 price tag of the ASUS 31.5" display was the most inexpensive 4K monitor we had seen, a new competitor was announced today.
Although SEIKI is still in the TV business, the 39" 4K display (SE39UY04) they are announcing today is quite an interesting option. At $699, this display ends up being cheaper than most of the current 2560×1600 30" monitors currently on the market. Unlike the ASUS monitors however, this TV will be once again limited to a 30Hz refresh rate, which is disappointing. Regardless, we are extremely excited about this new TV option from SEIKI.
Preorders are set to start on June 27th at Sears online, but should expand to other retailers soon after.
SEIKI also announced a 65" 4K display, which they hope to ship by Fall 2013.
We are always excited for low cost, high resolution displays, so stay tuned to PC Perspective for more coverage on this display and others!

Can you post a follow-up to
Can you post a follow-up to your seiki 50″ 4K review? they just released new firmware for the blinking, that firmware, combined with setting the sharpness to Zero. I would be interested to see what your take was on it now. I have a 27″ Korean and would like to know if either Seiki 4K monitor would be a worth while upgrade, knowing that it caps out at 30Hz. It will be to play PC games with 2 7970s.
thanks!
What are some 4k content
What are some 4k content offerings? I mean, buying the TV now is all fine and dandy, but what the hell can I use it for? I don’t plan on buying an “OPPO” upconverter for about 500 bucks or so, because physical media is dead and that would be a poor investment. Does anyone have any 4k “streams” to share?

Soooooooooooooooo
Soooooooooooooooo disappointing that they haven’t decided to use DisplayPort yet. The moment they do, I’m sold.
But I’m not spending money on a 30 Hz display. I know it will be tolerable, but I also know I’ll regret it in a year or two when 60 Hz models are available.
Apparently the display panel
Apparently the display panel is capable of 120htz 4k. But the electronics on the screen can not handle that.
