Odd, turns out I found two brand new AMD A10-6800K Richland APUs sitting on my desk this morning. I called AMD to ask what this was all about and they said that if I didn't need them, I might as well give them away to our readers.
"Oh, and throw in a free copy of the new SimCity while you're at it," they told me.
Who am I to argue?
So let's have a giveaway!
We are handing out two AMD A10-6800K "Richland" APUs for you to build a brand new PC around and including a key for SimCity with each of them. If you haven't read Josh's review of the A10-6800K APU you should definitely do so; it will help educate you on exactly what you are getting – for FREE.
To enter, I need you to leave a comment on this very news post below telling us what you would build with a brand new A10 APU – you don't have to be registered to do so but we'd sure like it if you were. (Make sure you leave your correct email address so I can get in touch with you if you win.) Also, feel free to stop by the PC Perspective YouTube channel and either give our videos a gander or subscribe. I think we put out some great content there and we'd like more of you to see it.
I will pick one winner on June 17th and another on June 24th so you have two separate weeks to potentially win!
A big thanks goes out to AMD for supplying the APUs and copies of SimCity for this giveaway. Good luck!!

I have a 7950 and seeing as the PS4 and XBOX ONE use a combination of AMD APUs and Radeon GPUs, I’d love to combine the two to stay competitive come this autumn when they launch.

a long overdue replacement for the Pentium IIs which are not fit for much and wont even run permit a minecraft install
For me, it’s not about what I
For me, it’s not about what I would build, but about what a killer AMD APU would mean for me as I get back to “active geeking” — You see, I grew up building my own rigs, modifying them into ungodly configurations and pushing them until they blew up.
I still remember drawing graphite traces on Celeron 300a slot-one CPUs and messing with multipliers on K5 CPUs… good times… but like all good times, I grew up and moved into the “responsible world” where the OC lifestyle and the homebrew rig was times wasted, not enjoyed.
Now that I’m making my “real world” job follow my “geek world” passions, rather than the other way around, I see an A10-6800k as a real step in getting back into the saddle… airing out my skills.. going back to a world of mods and hacks that can only be described as glorious.
So…. what would I build? Not a gaming rig. Not a render machine. Not a server. … rather, I would use it to rebuild my inner geek and let him out to play in the fields of multi-core goodness.
Peace,
Padre

I would use an A10-6800K to build a folding@home farm machine for a few months, then in December use it as the core cpu for my grandfather’s gaming pc, yes he plays games, well StarCraft 2 / WoW / and WWII shooter games. 😀

I would build a new PC even though the Wife would kill me for sure (after a severe beating).
So worth it.
Thanks PCper for the great work you guys do.
With a new A10 APU I would
With a new A10 APU I would build a new rackmount music production machine. The modular design seems to excel for my DAW needs on my A10-4600M ThinkPad, so the new Richland desktop chips should be a significant step up in performance. I can also use the onboard 8670D GPU to push 3D visuals for my live act alongside my music. Richland offers a very viable low-cost platform with a remarkable multithreading punch. Don’t let the synthetic benchmark disparities diminish the strengths of this silicon; in real world tasks this chip gives its Intel contemporaries a good match on price/performance. I have yet to encounter a task where Piledriver disappoints (I’m coming from a dual Shanghai Opteron workstation for comparison).
I would build a nuclear
I would build a nuclear powered toaster equipped with laser turrets and an optional side burner to heat up some ham as you are toasting a delicious bagel.
Or…..I’d build an amazing system to replace my…not so amazing system so that I can get back into photoshop and games again. Then I would donate my current system to my father as part of Father’s day since he has been stuck on an old Compaq that’s about 10 years outdated (imo).
I would replace my Pentium 4
I would replace my Pentium 4 computer that is way to old to do just about anything besides surf the internet. Trying to encode video is day long process. The A10 would be a huge upgrade!
Thanks

I would make a time
I would make a time machine-based PC to turn back time so I could happen across this insane giveaway before they both ended. /headdesk
For the fun of it, I’ve been studying over a build for this very APU, and I’m good and well intent on making a long-overdue upgrade from my eMachines w5233 hunk-o’-junk: a first-time build I will call… GOJIRA (in honor of my life-long love of the Big G).
I’ll do it… so help me, I’ll do it right to it!
I would update my second PC
I would update my second PC (currently a Core i5 650). I would probably throw the fastest GPU that is supported (that does not also disable the onboard Radeon cores).
I would love to replace my
