A feature on the new Samsung phones which we have not had much chance to use is the wireless charging feature called Qi. The TYLT VÜ is a product which will change that as you can use it to charge your phone wirelessly that came about as the result of a successful Kickstarter campaign. At $70 from their online store it is not the least expensive accessory available for your phone but it is certainly one of the most interesting. LANOC finished a review of the device and found it charged the phone in about the same time as a wired charger does, you will never have a drained battery with the VÜ around.
"It’s amazing how far technology has gone when you look at the mobile phone market. It really wasn’t that long ago when the RAZR flip phone was the hip thing to have. Now most people have large screens, fast internet, and more processing power than you would ever have imagined. With that in mind, it does seem a little crazy that we still have to plug our phones in all of the time to charge them. When I picked up my Nexus 4, the wireless charging feature was one of the most interesting to me. Today I will finally be able to show off what it’s all about with the new TYLT VÜ wireless charging pad."

I have been following this
I have been following this product since January in hopes of picking up a reasonably priced Qi charger. Sadly over the course of the year the competitors products haven’t gotten better or cheaper. Why would I want a charger that is flat and can’t be used either when I’m in bed, or sitting at my desk? The Tylt VU still looks great but I can’t justify $70 for a bit of convenience.
I wish this was available
I wish this was available when I got my Nexus 7. I got the Nokia charger refurb for less than $30.00, but $70.00 is a bit much.
I wish people would stop
I wish people would stop calling this wireless charging. It should be called connector-less charging. I get to free my self from the 4 seconds that it takes to plug in the cord for a slower charging 70 dollar dock. No thanks
Maybe a different term could
Maybe a different term could have been chosen to avoid confusion (like sticking to “inductive”) but it ‘is’ wireless from charger/dock to phone. True wireless IMO is over-the-air across several feet (being worked on but far from ready).
Its funny how lazy or clueless journalists see this as the next big thing when its hardly new for mobile devices. Palm did a proprietary version in 2009 for phones ( http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/palm-pre-touchstone-eyes-on/ ) and again (under HP) in 2011 on the Touchpad tablet ( http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/hp-touchpad-review/ ).
Its such a waist of energie,
Its such a waist of energie, the efficiency is just awfull if the two coils aren’t centert or there is a gap in between.
I would rather use a charging dock and have to contacts on the back of my phone. But the industry wants it “wireless” no matter what.
Well for phones its not that much of a waist but wait untill we have electric cars…
Which samsung phone comes
Which samsung phone comes standard with the Qi built in Jeremy? I’m familiar with the fact that you can buy a $100 kit for the Samsung GS4 that will make it Qi compatible.
I saw this product at CES this year and it’s nice, but not $70 nice. I have 3 or 4 of the Nokia Qi chargers that were originally $50 retail but can be had for $25 now.
Some other commenters think its a waste of energy and stupid/lazy. The research shows that the lost energy in Qi charging is only a few bucks a year. If you are like me and use your cell phone for work, having a wireless charger on your desk is awesome. I get phone calls on my cell while its charging and i can quickly answer it and walk away from the cubicle without worrying about cables. It sounds stupid, but its a huge convenience once you try it. The difference is your phone is always charged all the time.
I was thinking of that
I was thinking of that adapter … I was going to point out just how expensive setting a Samsung to charge wirelessly but I ended up getting caught up in other things and skipped that comment.
“Quality and Performance
“Quality and Performance comes with a price” as they say BUT i wont be
surprised in the next few months or so, some Tech company based in China
will release a product similar to this one with a much much cheaper
price while offering similar performance if that happens, i dont know if
competition will favor us consumers…
