A lot of news coming from the NVIDIA camp today, including some price drops and price announcements.
First up, the high-powered GeForce GTX 780 is getting dropped from $649 to $499, a $150 savings that will bring the GTX 780 into line with the competition of AMD's new Radeon R9 290X launched last week.
Next, the GeForce GTX 770 2GB is going to drop from $399 to $329 to help it compete more closely with the R9 280X.
Even you weren't excited about the R9 290X, you have to be excited by competition.
In a surprising turn of events, NVIDIA is now the company with the great bundle deal with GPUs as well! Starting today you'll be able to get a free copy of Batman: Arkham Origins, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag with the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, GTX 780 and GTX 770. If you step down to the GTX 760 or 660 you'll lose out on the Batman title.
SHIELD discounts are available as well: $100 off you buy the upper tier GPUs and $50 off if you but the lower tier.
UPDATE: NVIDIA just released a new version of GeForce Experience that enabled ShadowPlay, the ability to use Kepler GPUs to record game play in the background with almost no CPU/system ovehead. You can see Scott's initial impressions of the software right here; it seems like its going to be a pretty awesome feature.
Need more news? The yet-to-be-released GeForce GTX 780 Ti is also getting a price – $699 based on the email we just received. And it will be available starting November 7th!!
With all of this news, how does it change our stance on the graphics market? Quite a bit in fact. The huge price drop on the GTX 780, coupled with the 3-game bundle means that NVIDIA is likely offering the better hardware/software combo for gamers this fall. Yes, the R9 290X is likely still a step faster, but now you can get the GTX 780, three great games and spend $50 less.
The GTX 770 is now poised to make a case for itself against the R9 280X as well with its $70 drop. The R9 280X / HD 7970 GHz Edition was definitely a better option with its $100 price delta but with only $30 separating the two competing cards, and the three free games, again the advantage will likely fall to NVIDIA.
Finally, the price point of the GTX 780 Ti is interesting – if NVIDIA is smart they are pricing it based on comparable performance to the R9 290X from AMD. If that is the case, then we can guess the GTX 780 Ti will be a bit faster than the Hawaii card, while likely being quieter and using less power too. Oh, and again, the three game bundle.
NVIDIA did NOT announce a GTX TITAN price drop which might surprise some people. I think the answer as to why will be addressed with the launch of the GTX 780 Ti next month but from what I was hearing over the last couple of weeks NVIDIA can't make the cards fast enough to satisfy demand so reducing margin there just didn't make sense.
NVIDIA has taken a surprisingly aggressive stance here in the discrete GPU market. The need to address and silence critics that think the GeForce brand is being damaged by the AMD console wins is obviously potent inside the company. The good news for us though, and the gaming community as a whole, is that just means better products and better value for graphics card purchases this holiday.
NVIDIA says these price drops will be live by tomorrow. Enjoy!

Man, this just makes me eager
Man, this just makes me eager for the 800s. As soon as I can replace a pair of 4gb 670s with something that gives me +50% performance (especially if its a single unit; not SLI), I’ll be ready to pull that trigger. C’mon spring!
According to Josh’s
According to Josh’s editorial, products are not slated until Q3 2014.
THIS was what I was waiting
THIS was what I was waiting for. It’s a great time to be a PC Gamer. But then I now have the thought “Wasn’t Nvidia going to release some new cards in late first quarter of next year?” Argh, always waiting…..
Just to add, I don’t see
Just to add, I don’t see these prices reflected anywhere yet. Especially at my local Microcenter. *sigh*
NVIDIA did say they would be
NVIDIA did say they would be in effect tomorrow.
Yeah, I should have read that
Yeah, I should have read that detail at the tail end of the article. But I was busy reading the article in Jeremy’s voice for some reason. Good shit Ryan!
Yeah, that too. I’m thinking
Yeah, that too. I’m thinking more along the lines of “when the hell is the next super expensive powerhouse going to be released so I can buy it!”, but the even better news is really for gamers within a reasonable budget really wanting to optimize their next purchase. I think things are going to be pretty good across the board, going into the holidays.
Good to hear some more
Good to hear some more concrete info. Pricing is getting more competitive. Can’t wait to see the aftermarket options from both AMD and Nvidia before biting onto anything.
good new about the gtx 780
good new about the gtx 780 and gtx 770 but as for the gtx 780 ti, am pretty sure they should have priced it @ 650$,
just saying. :)!
Thank you based Nvidia, time
Thank you based Nvidia, time to upgrade!

coming soon: R9 290: $300; R9 290X $450…lol
great price drops Nvidia. shame I swore off their products for life, because that GTX780 is a must have now.
I feel sorry for Ryan, no way he doesn’t know about this ahead of time and NDAs/relationships stop him from speaking about it. 😛 You are a rock bro.
I actually didn’t know about
I actually didn't know about these price drops. I knew they were considering them but didn't know when or by how much. I found at at 9am ET!
dang it! I wanted to be
dang it! I wanted to be right. lol
AMD needs to reconsider their relationship with you. They are missing out on the opportunity of coming in and doing “live” product exposure/coverage from the top tier PC review site.
they owe you a debt for forcing them to address frame pacing.
I’m glad I benefited from your hard work though, thanks,
PCper4lyfe
guys please pelase answer me
guys please pelase answer me this, what is nvidia shield handheld 100% copun i dont udnerstand please !!!!!!!

Ryan, I am getting a boner,
Ryan, I am getting a boner, omg are you sure these are correct. Nvidia doesn’t seem to be the kind of brand to reduce prices no offense lol. Also do you subtly know any of the roomer as when exactly the next series is coming out? gtx 800? i mean just a take a guess and don’t break NDA. and how the heck is the gtx 780ti 200 times the price? WAT THE HELL. they can’t sell any at that price can they? PLEASE TELL ME RYAN>
Once again AMD owns
Once again AMD owns inflationary pressure by the Federal Reserve. :p
Ummm… not really?
As far I
Ummm… not really?
As far I know, Intel is keeping AMD alive in the CPU competition, and most likely the fund is also migrated towards the GPU side as well.
Why? You might ask.
America.
Monopolies are not appreciated, and Intel would be split into 2 to create competition.
The amount of money being fed is astonishing. Which explains the reason Intel refuses to release an 8 core premium consumer based CPU, because they wanted to leave that breathing space for AMD to recover. Plus the fact that they are just so far ahead in *per core preformance* compaired to AMD, they did not have the need to raise costs when they can milk a grand from 6 cores already.
Although i only heard this from a fellow worker in this field, you can believe whatever you choose to believe. Perspective is key. lol
Wait a minute… I can get a
Wait a minute… I can get a GeForce 780 and Shield and 3 AAA title games that I don’t have yet for the $700?
Yes, please.
I’ll probably wait until after this week’s podcast just to hear about it. This had better end up as somebody’s Hardware/Software pick of the week!
😀

Hi Guys, I am an owner of GTX
Hi Guys, I am an owner of GTX Titan. I wanted to buy another one to go for SLI solution. What do you think will it be price reduction of Titan? It doesn’t make sense to buy it for 1000$ now.
Maybe, due to similarity of 780Ti and Titan they will work together in SLI. Will it work?
Maybe it would work, but
Maybe it would work, but you’d lose out on the extra 3gb of vram so kinda pointless.

You might get lucky when the
You might get lucky when the 780 Ti is released but as it stands now, if NVIDIA didn’t announce changes to the TITAN pricing today, I wouldn’t expect them very soon.
This is great news, but the
This is great news, but the 780 TI is rather overpriced. $200 more than the 780 and it is just an overclocked card. One can obtain those speeds for free with an overclocking utility.
No, it will have at least one
No, it will have at least one extra SMX turned on if not two AND clocked up.
Not the same thing. Since they can’t make titans fast enough to fill demand (per Ryan’s comment), I suspect they just have one more smx and are failed Titans probably, then clock them up a bit and you have a great card above 290x easily and probably slightly faster or tied with titan. The tie with titan doesn’t matter as it’s for PRO stuff people who happen to like fast gaming too. So no reason to cut titan, as it’s aimed at people who can’t afford $2500 for Tesla and like gaming too. If I couldn’t make them as fast as they sell, I’d raise it’s price $100. It’s just good business…LOL. Call me greedy, I don’t care. Business is in it to make MONEY. PERIOD. 🙂
You realize the 290X is
You realize the 290X is beating Titan in 4K and eyefinity in a lot of games, right? Just saying.
When AMD had the best
When AMD had the best software bundle ALL press was ignoring it. Almost NO WHERE in the articles.
Now than Nvidia is giving the best software bundle, IT IS ALL OVER THE ARTICLE.
That said, it was about time Nvidia do do something like that, if not a little late, but certainly not too little.
Ummm…??

Ummm…??
Let me explain that
Ummm…??
Let me explain that “Ummm…”
When reading reviews and comparisons between AMD gpus and Nvidia gpus, AMD’s bundle was like “Ah, you know, AMD is giving also some games. The value of these games? Well we are comparing gpus here, not bundles”. Usually AMD bundles where about one or two lines in a multi page article.
Now I look at your article and I am thinking that I am reading a PR from Nvidia. So much enthusiasm? Well yes, so much enthusiasm. It is correct to feel great with these bundles. But when we are talking about AMDs bundles, all over the internet are usually ignored in reviews and articles that compare cards.
The same thing happens with other stuff. Nvidia tech? Great. AMD tech? Skepticism. Nvidia exclusive? Great. AMD exclusive? It fragments the PC market. A bad thing…
Not entirely sure what sites
Not entirely sure what sites you’ve been reading, but I have to look around really hard to see the hordes of people hailing PhysX or TXAA… if we’re talking about features. However I can understand *somewhat* the difference between the view on added features by Nvidia versus AMD.
Looking back at the past two-three years the driver department on the green camp is just considerably better. Although recent drivers (Win8 related) were not always up to scratch and there are some minor issues with specific cards like the 560ti with newer drivers, in general, Nvidia driver support is cleaner, less buggy and more complete, especially considering SLI profiles and support. Consider also the micro stuttering issue that AMD still has trouble with in a select number of configurations while Nvidia cards are alot smoother across the board. Yes, it’s been largely fixed, but these kinds of things weigh heavily on the customer’s choices when picking a brand. They also influence the way people look at brands.
Honestly, for a company that seems to have trouble and needs quite a lot of time to get their basic driver functionality up to scratch and bug-free / stable, it is rather normal to add a big question mark when complex new features are released to the public. Also, features like True Audio do reek of a desperate search to add some unique selling points, as does Mantle, in my ears. We haven’t seen a single benchmark, the audio demo’s are sketchy at best… AMD is not very keen on forwarding actual, concrete data about these features, just big marketing terms. It is only logical to be doubtful whether any of these features are going to make any kind of difference.
So a $300 drop in the Titan
So a $300 drop in the Titan price rebranded as a GTX 780…why the hell not :-
ROFL…Fanboy…Titan has
ROFL…Fanboy…Titan has full DP and is a $1500 drop off $2500 Telsa cards.
780 is NOT a TITAN and never was. Titan is for gamers who happen to do some PRO WORK too.
780 is GAMER. And now 780 is $500 drop from Titan price. Maybe you meant 780TI. But again, if it beats the 290x in everything and comes with 3 AAA games (290x zero games) then yeah, worth $699. Lower heat, noise, watts, better drivers are all bonus stuff too 😉 Try again…
Huh now I have to put my
Huh now I have to put my upgrade plans on hold. This can only be a good thing for consumers. Both the 780 and 290X are fast cards and I guess we’ll have to wait until Mantle is used to see any benefit there.
Maybe someone who runs a hardware review site could maybe test the 290X and 780 under watercooling maybe?
Well this announcement could
Well this announcement could very well change my upcoming upgrade from a r9 290x to a gtx 780.
Wasn’t really a fan of the super hot turbine state of the coolers on the 290x… don’t think I can hold off until after market coolers come out on the amd’s
This sorta suck for current
This sorta suck for current 780 owners like me haha. but its great for yall!
Ugh…. And I purchased a
Ugh…. And I purchased a GTX 780 just under 60 days ago. Not the happiest of panda’s at the moment :-/
and even then you were only
and even then you were only about ninety days away from black friday. whoops?
Second GTX 780 HERE WE COME!
Second GTX 780 HERE WE COME! Deep DISCOUNTS are AWESOME!!!. YAY. Thank you Nvidia.
Thanks Nvidia for ceasing to
Thanks Nvidia for ceasing to gouge me! Nvidia just confirmed that they’ve been gouging customers on pricing by immediately adjusting their prices to AMD’s new card. If there was no new card from AMD, there would be no price drop from Nvidia. This is why I find all the fanboyism hilarious and yet disturbing. The biggest losers if either AMD or Nvidia fail (aside from the employees themselves) will be us, the consumers. I’m not sure if I should be happy or sad about Intel either. If Intel ends up competing in the high end market, that will be good for us, but if Intel drains away the low end graphics chip market can AMD and NVidia both continue to exist solely on enthusiast class discrete card sales?
I would consider AMD if they
I would consider AMD if they could get their Linux Drivers in working order. They’re OK, but they just don’t stand up to NVidia at the moment. I got bit hard on a Radeon Card’s drivers a while back in Linux and I don’t want to buy another one until I can be sure it will work like I want.
I’m hoping Steam for Linux and SteamOS pushes both AMD and NVidia to improve their Linux drivers.
I dream of a day when I can quit dual booting and drop Windows. I’m getting closer all the time! 🙂
Last week, I was confident of
Last week, I was confident of upgrading to a 780 for $650. I was just waiting for the game deals to kick in. Given I was comfortable at that budget, now I HAVE to go for SLI 770’s, no?
