So the really interesting news today was G-Sync but that did not stop NVIDIA from sneaking in a new high-end graphics card. The GeForce GTX 780 Ti follows the company's old method of releasing successful products:
- Attach a seemingly arbitrary suffix to a number
- ???
- Profit!
In all seriousness, we know basically nothing about this card. It is entirely possible that its architecture might not even be based on GK110. We do know it will be faster than a GeForce 780 but we have no frame of reference in regards to the GeForce Titan. The two cards were already so close in performance that Ryan struggled to validate the 780's existence. Imagine how difficult it would be for NVIDIA to wedge yet another product in that gap.
And if it does outperform the Titan, what is its purpose? Sure, Titan is a GPGPU powerhouse if you want double-precision performance without purchasing a Tesla or a Quadro, but that is not really relevant for gamers yet.
We shall see, soon, when we get review samples in. You, on the other hand, will likely see more when the card launches mid-November. No word on pricing.
WOW…. I am so NOT
WOW…. I am so NOT excited…..
faggot
faggot
My guess It`s basically an
My guess It`s basically an Titan with 4Gb of Vram.
This thing is going to be
This thing is going to be stronger than the titan. he used the same words to describe the titan when it first launched. the titan is not going to have to much on this.
SLI titan owner 🙁
This is all they need to beat
This is all they need to beat AMD. It looks like AMD’s card is 60 more watts (290x) to beat 780 so just crank up 100mhz or whatever lands you around 290x watts and keep pricing the same knocking down the other chips replacing one model down for both 780 and titan. These two chips already reach 1250-1300 in overclocking so no need to do anything but raise the mhz to beat AMD again. You have 60watts and a good 10 degrees of heat it seems that 290x adds over titan, and even more over 780. So just add 60w of heat to both cards to match or beat them in heat/watts and dominate the perf again. Simple. Basically releasing what card makers are already calling OC cards as the default now, no different than AMD did by releasing ghz editions ages ago.
The 290x needed to beat NV titan by 10% in EVERYTHING not just their AMD evolved games in order to get a REAL response from NV. They didn’t do that so we’re getting Ti versions of everything now instead of anything better. The 290x changes nothing for AMD profits unfortunately, it just makes NV up their clocks. Which is still good for buyers. Either way you want to go (amd or nv) you get faster cards this year for the same price as last year. That’s good 🙂 But I’ll wait for maxwell. I desire the perf gains and watts/heat lowering that only 20nm brings (I live in AZ so need something that is far better than my 5850, but lowers temps some while doing it). As a bonus it seems AMD finally getting their drivers together means I’ll probably get some free games from now on. Though I wish AMD would stop all the games so they’d make some money and wish NV didn’t have to give them out now either. I
want hardware innovation, not free games killing AMD profits and now likely a small bit of NV profits too as 3 AAA games ain’t free for NV’s bottom line any more than 4-8 free games is for AMD’s. The whole free games things SUCK! It’s a large part of why AMD is only now catching titan/780 (ok, and drivers issues ruining their rep, and console development that surely cost a lot of PC card/cpu R&D). NO PROFITS. $31million this quarter won’t make that change much either. They will likely lose money next quarter as 200mil is owed to Global Foundry Dec 31. So this profit and next quarter’s is again GONE.
Thing is the 290x is clocked
Thing is the 290x is clocked at what? 1ghz? the titan is only clocked at 860mhz, I have seen that titan cards are easy to overclock to like 1100mhz, so would like to see how well that 290x does against that.
The Titan is almost twice the
The Titan is almost twice the price…you could buy 2 290x’s for similar price of a Titan… PRICE plays a big part now just the computing power of a card
It has gotten to the point
It has gotten to the point that the only reasonable choice is to not be an early adopter.
Well, there goes the theory
Well, there goes the theory the high-end GPU’s each generation are going to go down. Looks like we can expect the 880, 980, etc. and the same on AMD’s side to continue the new trend of starting at $599-$659.
Damn this is getting
Damn this is getting ridiculous, GPU prices are just going to get higher and higher and higher. Pretty soon people will have to pay $2000 for a high end GPU at this rate.
so damn sexy
10/10 would
so damn sexy
10/10 would never stop fucking
I think until we see more
I think until we see more details about the actual card itself we really can’t speculate what direction the market is trending.
However, I will admit it is rather likely to be just a slight bump in performance with maybe a slightly more unlocked 110. Although, I am basing this upon their previous Ti branded cards. That being said, the technology portfolio that Nvidia is building is rather impressive to say the least, so when you pair that with their video cards it makes for a tempting offer.
I will personally reserve judgment until after the first round of patches for the drivers once the cards are on the market from both AMD and Nvidia.
Speaking in a neutral
Speaking in a neutral standpoint, lil’ did nVidia know that AMD got nVidia’s
upcoming GPU (namely 780GTX TI) by its neck and for strategic “price to
performance” point of view, as we all know its not just the upcoming BAD ASS
Radeon 290X AMD have in their “Secret Bag of Tricks”, they also have R295x
OOOPS! (Mouth ZIPPED!) the Real TITAN killer and when they release it, first,
they are going to cut the R8 and R9 series price in order for it be more
competitive making nVidia’s hi end GPU even less competitive and with the
$699 price point of R290x for sure its price will go down into something more
attractive to PC enthusiast and hi end PC gamers thus making it super
competitive while their “Secret Sauce” on its release they will price it to
something “$699″ish… again, making nVidia’s new 780GTX TI less competitive
(tho this is just price to performance ratio) When it comes to specific USE
of the GPU, it depends on the consumer if for example he can’t afford to buy
a hi end QUADRO for his 3d Animation, design and rendering and other GPGPU
needs that requires CUDA processing thats where the advantage of the 780GTX
TI comes into play. As far as gaming is concerned a TITAN killer on a $699
price range, that would really hurt the TITAN. Frankly speaking IMO,
nVidia is not releasing a new GPU, their 780GTX TI, is just a stock TITAN and
modified its specs a bit so IT WOULD LOOK like a new GPU based on their GK110
just to compete with the R290x and thats all there is to it and i dont know
what will happen to nVidia if AMD would release a much higher R9 series GPU
than their upcoming R9 290x.
On the other side, im glad nVidia realized that their TITAN (now known as
their 780GTX TI) can now be bought by PC enthusiast and hi end gamers without spending few extra hundred dollars just to enjoy its performance. Sadly they
have no choice but to rename it to something more competitive also.. GTX TI. LOL!
@Ryan Shrout: The Titan has a
@Ryan Shrout: The Titan has a larger Framebuffer than the 780. Can you ask Tom Petersen – if he joins you on launch day – if the 780Ti will have a larger Framebuffer than the Titan?
I mean: NVIDIA claims that “NVIDIA’s newest und fastest Graphics Card ever” does that imply smoothness too?
Thank You =) Love your site and your reviews! And I would love to ask the question live, but I come from another Country and our Time zones doesn’t mach, so I probably will not be able to view it live!
Ah ok.. according to this
Ah ok.. according to this article the questions does not seem important anymore, because the card would be really in between the 780 and Titan! Oh NVIDIA… $MONEY$!!!!!!
