Though a little bit outside our normal coverage area, I wanted to share a quick video we made this morning that shows off the new Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Much like the Nest thermostat released a couple years ago, the smoke detector takes a new approach to this bland and "dumb" device in your home. It connects to Wi-Fi for alerts, speaks in a human tone about warnings and is intelligent enough to let you know in what room the emergency is occurring.

Nice quick look
The only problem with these “high-end” detectors is the fact that you have to replace them regularly (7 years for the nest) that’s a lot of cash if you’re doing a whole house/apt.
It would be nice if they would develop a model with replaceable modules (seperate pcb’s maybe?) for just the detector sensors to reduce the replacement costs.
I dunno just a thought 🙂
You would also have to
You would also have to consider, will those servers still be around in 7 years, or will they change some things to screw the customer?
This is always a major risk when your product has an unnecessary cloud requirement.
