DigiTimes has put together an overview of AMD's plans to take back market share over the coming year, though of course AMD is not confirming or denying the accuracy of their report. First off will be the coming of the 28nm Kaveri family in January with availability planned to follow quickly. Beema, which will be based on the Puma+ architecture should arrive in the summer but there is also a Kabini-based series for the new socket, FS1B, which will get limited release in some areas. FS1B will be used for up coming Sempron and Athlon models designed for low power usage scenarios though don't expect to see AM3+ or FM2 disappear any time soon. You will have to wait for 2015 before Carrizo and Nolan make an appearance.
"AMD has been enhancing the marketing of its processors in DIY markets and aims to increase its global DIY market share from about 30% currently to 40%, and to reach a DIY market share above 45% in China in particular, at the end of 2014, according to Taiwan-based motherboard makers."

style low end SKU design win, beacuse putting all your eggs in the M$ basket, is only going to leave you with some very rotten egg on your face. The market for Linux based products is now reaching critical mass, and you should have some products that will be appealing to the city of Munich, and other penguin towns, as well as your gaming SKUs. It is time to, A-holes and elbows, get your Gaben OS driver house in order, as well as your all around Opus OS driver SKU based laptop/PC based SKU design wins. And do get, also, your HSA/uHMA ARM based SKUs to market ASAP, The non x86, NON WINTEL world awaits!

Here’s hoping that 2014 is the year that AMD truly gets back in the game. They’ve been showing signs of having strong core hardware, now they just need to build on that and not diminish it with defects & gimmicks. Keep the great core engineering, get rid of the defective drivers, the sub-standard cooling, and the sketchy marketing and biz practices that have made it hard to trust in the company or invest in its products in 2013.
We need AMD back in top shape and hopefully 2014 is the year we get it.

I’m still hopefull that AMD will release an AM3+ refresh using the Steamrunner .. wait that is a startrek reference. I mean Steamroller core. There are still plenty of users who need powerful CPU.
If the want to support just one platform, then just release an octacore Steamroller for FM2+ and there.
Either way, I hope AMD does turn around and remember the power users too.

So, basically more APU crap for low-margin machines, endless refreshes and stupid names. Absolutely nothing that inspires, in any way.
Nothing for desktop CPUs, not even a courtesy refresh.
Nothing about graphics, no new tech, no significant driver improvements, not a fucking peep about Mantle, nothing. Meanwhile nvidia has gsync coming, intel will have 6-core haswells for less than 350 bucks and 8-core haswells for 600 bucks by the end of next year.
Mark my words 2014 is when AMD dies. Just watch, they have no assets left to sell. Fabs are long gone, buildings are gone, they already fired enough engineers to be basically operating on a skeleton crew. How long AMD survives is purely based on how long it takes the executives to loot what’s left of this company.
Naw, ain’t no OEM that uses
Naw, ain’t no OEM that uses AMD CPUs, Including those that use Intel CPUs in the majority of their SKUs, going to let AMD go under, they will keep AMD alive, if just to keep Intel’s prices from qoing through the stratosphere, and to infinity and beyond! Just like IBM, at the dawn of the PC age, forced Intel to second source the x86 instruction set to AMD, and others, for that very same reason! And remember these high end CPUs, for gamers, have always been subsidized by the sales of the mainstream SKUs, of both Intel and AMD! That APU crap, pays the bills, so if you want to pay like the enterprise customers do, for the server chips, that are high priced, but self supporting, the you are going to have to go Intel for their subsidized gaming friendly(but not without AMD’s or Nvidia’s descrete GPUs) CPU SKUs , or wait for AMD to increase its revenue stream to the point where it can afford to subsidize their gaming(high end)CPU SKUs again! Remember AMD owns SeaMicro, and SeaMicro sells servers with Intel chips in them, if that what the customer wants, Intel chips in SeaMicro servers, sold at retail markups, and keeping AMD in business! And what about the x86 64 bit instruction set architecture thats some AMD IP that generates revenue!
That brick and mortar stuff may be sold, but the valuable IP remains, and HSA hUMA APUs, x86 and ARM based, are going to make AMD loads of cash!
APUs is pretty much the only
APUs is pretty much the only area where AMD’s CPUs can possibly have an upper hand over Intel, so I can’t blame AMD for taking that route. Also, mobile is where the volume is these days, and AMD still needs to do more mobile APU development, specially with regards to power consumption, which is critical in mobile applications.
What about GPUs integrated
What about GPUs integrated and descrete, AMD walks all over Intel in the GPU market, along with Nvidia, how ’bout those Intel CPUs, gaming benchmarks, with the AMD or Nvidia descrete GPUs pulled out of the PCI slot! I would love to see the Intel CPU top dog benchmarked without a little help from its NON-Intel friends, how many FPS on that Intel “CPU” gaming, high end, with all the bells and whistles on, and max res! Intel’s CPUs need third party GPU help, to seriously game. Its just a matter of time, before those console gaming APUs find their way onto PCIe cards, and start crossfiring, 1 card 8 CPU cores + more powerful GPU, all shareing a 256, or 512 bit GPU bus to 8 gigs of GDDR5 on PCI card memory, 2 cards 16 CPU cores, 2 GPUs and all the rest! What is the motherboard CPU going to run, or need to run, tied to its slow narrow moatherboard databus, and regular memory? the gaming engine is going to be running on one or 1 of the APU gaming cards, same goes for the gaming OS, or maybe the gaming engine and OS will run on both cards at the same time, and work like a 2 node gaming cluster, while the motherboard CPU is used for decoding, or other tasks in assist mode! This is not an IF, but when, as far as the gaming APU’s evolution!
