This morning I had an interesting delivery on my door step.
The only thing inside it was an envelope stamped TOP SECRET and this photo. Coming from AMD's PR department, the hashtag #2betterthan1 adorned the back of the picture.
This original photo is from like….2004. Nice, very nice AMD.
With all the rumors circling around the release of a new dual-GPU graphics card based on Hawaii, it seems that AMD is stepping up the viral marketing campaign a bit early. Code named 'Vesuvius', the idea of a dual R9 290X single card seems crazy due to high power consumption but maybe AMD has been holding back the best, most power efficient GPUs for such a release.
What do you think? Can AMD make a dual-GPU Hawaii card happen? How will this affect or be affected by the GPU shortages and price hikes still plaguing the R9 290 and R9 290X? How much would you be willing to PAY for something like this?
AHAHhAhahhAha, you’re the
AHAHhAhahhAha, you’re the (psychedelic) Man…. I’m scared!!!
LMFAO….
LMFAO….
Well it’ll be interesting to
Well it’ll be interesting to see the naming scheme for this. Because there previous scheme won’t work Might have to go back to the 4xxx series naming and go with 290XX2
Why not 295X? Nvidia did that
Why not 295X? Nvidia did that a few years ago with their GTX 295.
or the just could give it a
or the just could give it a name all its own, like the r9 goliath, or r9 behemoth, or the r9 titan. (Wait that one is taken I think)

If AMD really wanted too, I
If AMD really wanted too, I believe that they could pull it off but the whole thing reads like a marketing stunt to me.
If they actually get one to market, I believe that it would have to effect the market of the other cards in some way, but how would depend upon the supply vs the demand. I suspect that if the performance is there, the demand will, of course, out pace the supply and the rest is well…. you know….
And the big question: Would I buy one? Probably not. Why? Because I can usually only rebuild my system once a year and one of the items that usually isn’t part of the build is a top-end video card. It’s not in the budget and usually never is and that’s with me building exclusively with AMD parts. It’s not because I am an AMD fan boy, but more because AMD parts work for me, play the games that I wish to play or whatever else I wish them to do, and most of all, they are parts that I can afford to buy from one year to the next. I just haven’t been able to do that with Intel or Nvidia parts.
To be honest, this year has been the best year ever for me as far as being able to upgrade/rebuild my machine and I used the PCPer Hardware leader board as a basis. I am quite happy with the results.
