Ryan forgot the part where CPU optimization in DX12 is optional in-order to maintain backwards compatibility DX11
DX12 games will not be required to include the CPU optimization portion of DX12 to be classified as such.

Ryan, when i listen to you, i have a feeling you picked green instead of red, or instead of neutral, i might be just my imagination though :p.
about Mantle, to me the situation is pretty simple, as AMD said at the GPU14, they released Mantle, because microsoft refused for years to go lower on DX, although AMD and many Developers were asking for it.
Nvidia and AMD have been at it for years now, and Nvidia was winning because it has a bigger and better Drivers developement Team, while AMD cut that departement at some point, so one of the major wins of nvidia as everyone know are better drivers, provide slightly better perf, less bugs, etc..
this is possible only because DX is not a low level Api, that throws optimisation into the manufacturer instead of the game developer, while any low level Api does the exact opposite,
the developper make his game and optimise it, and take the pressure off AMD, and Nvidia loses it’s egde, with the Mantle move it worked so well that microsoft had no choice but to go in this direction, and i dont believe that Nvidia is very happy about it.
if DX goes low as AMD wants, they wont push Mantle as a standard on windows, they might focus mobility, linux, mac, but one thing is sure they will keep Mantle around, because it’s a very good card.
next battle between Nvidia & AMD, is graphic engines, nvidia library on unreal4 and Mantle on cryengine4
one thing is sure i am glad for mantle and how it moved things forward in pc gaming
DX12 will benefit no one,
DX12 will benefit no one, especially when Microsoft force’s you to buy Windows 9 to take advantaged of it. I see no reason as a gamer to update your operation system and hardware to run DX12, you’ll see little or no difference at all in the long run, plus when were getting console ports. Maybe multiple GPU’s that’s about it. I still have like 20+ games I never played yet that are DX11 and it took year years to get the architecture up to speed. The same will apply for DX12 maybe in 2017 2018 you’ll see something, then again like I said you you’ll see little or no difference at all, its all about the API and developers.

Get over it WINTEL sheeple, Nvidia like AMD will be competition for WINTEL not friends! Expect GPUs to get CPU type control logic, and each and every one of those execution units on GPUs to become indipendent Vector proccessor/general purpose computers in their own right, a la plenty of Uncle Sam’s exoscale computing dollars. Nvidia is introducing a complete system on an on die/module, with the system bus traced out on silica, an uber wide bus, based on IBM, and other Open Industry Standard IP, that will become the new standard, and AMD will also have access to this technology. IBM has developed many leading technologies, Including through silicon vias. IBM, like the IBM that forced Intel to cross license the x86 instruction set, will make this technology available through the IP Foundations it has started! IBM will use this to create more competition on the hardware side of the HPC/server compute market to assure IBM a supply of powerfull hardware, based on this technology, supplied to IBM by the lowest bidder, be it Nvidia, AMD, or others! The real money is not in the hardware, but in the services that go along with the hardware, software and system integration services for HPC/servers for IBM’s clients! The real money in computing has never been in just selling the hardware, but the services that go into the OS/System software/System analysis and configuration of new system for business clients. Expect this technology partally funded by the government and IBM to filter down to the gaming market, but as always most of the Gaming hardware technology was developed and subsidized with tax dollars, and other enterprise sales! ever wonder why Intel’s server chips cost so much money, money which Intel uses to subsidize its E series development with, or outright uses stripped down server tech, to make the E series CPUs. Expect gaming GPUs to all become complete SOCs replete with uber wide data buses, and stacked RAM, all connected on a mezzanine module/card, including a gaming OS and gaming engine. The Days of the motherboard CPU as a factor in gaming are coming to an end, as the entire gaming system will be laied out on traces etched on a wafer and stacked with all of the components of a computing system. All hail our vector processor overlords, and props go out to the Mobile GPU industry for intorducing hardware ray tracing to GPUs, where there is lots of competition there is lots of innovation. Don’t look for windows on these computing clusters on a mezzanine module as the HPC software is mostly Linux based, but gaming is about to enter the computing cluster era.
