To a crowd of press and developers at their GTC summit, NVIDIA announced the GeForce GTX Titan Z add-in board (AIB). Each of the two, fully unlocked, GK110 GPUs would each have access to 6GB of GDDR5 memory (12GB total). The card was expected to be available on May 8th but has yet to surface. As NVIDIA has yet to comment on the situation, many question whether it ever will.
And then we get what we think are leaked benchmarks (note: two pictures).
One concern about the Titan Z was its rated 8 TeraFLOPs of compute performance. This is a fairly sizable reduction from the theoretical maximum of 10.24 TeraFLOPs of two Titan Black processors and even less than two first-generation Titans (9 TeraFLOPs combined). We expected that this is due to reduced clock rates. What we did not expect is for benchmarks to show the GPUs boost way above those advertised levels, and even beyond the advertised boost clocks of the Titan Black and the 780 Ti. The card was seen pushing 1058 MHz in some sections, which leads to a theoretical compute performance of 12.2 TeraFLOPs (6.1 TeraFLOPs per GPU) in single precision. That is a lot.
These benchmarks also show that NVIDIA has a slight lead over AMD's R9 295X2 in many games, except Battlefield 4 and Sleeping Dogs (plus 3DMark and Unigine). Of course, these benchmarks measure the software reported frame rate and frame times and those may or may not be indicative of actual performance. While I would say that the Titan Z appears to have a slight performance lead over the R9 295X2, although a solid argument for an AMD performance win exists, it does so double the cost (at its expected $3000 USD price point). That is not up for debate.
Whichever card is faster, AMD's is half the price and available for purchase right now.
So, until NVIDIA says anything, the Titan Z is in limbo. I am sure there exists CUDA developers who await its arrival. Personally, I would just get three Titan Blacks since you are going to need to manually schedule your workloads across multiple processors anyway (or 780 Tis if 32-bit arithmetic is enough precision). That is, of course, unless you cannot physically fit enough GeForce Titan Blacks in your motherboard and, as such, you require two GK110 chips per AIB (but not enough to bother writing a cluster scheduling application).
thats quiet a stretch from
thats quiet a stretch from you to say it’s more performant than the 295×2, most sites said the opposite reading the same slides as you.
it failed fire strike, it failed 3d mark extreme, failed BF4 DX not even mantle, and sleeping dog, valley is kind of a tie.
now titan Z better in batman is a given for physx, tomb raider because of the last driver optimisation, and what is stone giant ?
temps on 3d mark lol 82 degree against 62 295x, the card can’t hold the clock.
power draw system 618watts, against 678watts 295 , we are far from the 375 watts, thats like 120watts more, and if only it could keep the overclock when warmed up.
the Titan blacks results are just lolish compared to the R9 290X, over twice the price for that, need to be a moron to buy it for gaming, even temps the titan black runs 93 degree on 3dmark, against 89 degree for R9 290X
bottom line the r9 295×2 beat crossfire 290X
the TitanZ fail every single 780Ti SLI bench
all this for 3000$, they should cancel this piece of crap
buying 295×2 instead of
buying 295×2 instead of crossfire R9 290X makes sense, you trade in about 200€ to go from 85 degree to 65 and have much quiter card, save space and get a boost in perf.
the titan Z instead of sli 780Ti, you keep the same temps same noise, for 3slot pci and lower perf, and you pay an extra 1600€ more than 780Ti sli for it.
and dont tell me cuda and pros BS, or everybody forgot the marketing of the Titan Z, Nvidia boasting about the 8 teraflops, fully unlocked gk110 core, THE NEVER SEEN GAMING EXPERIENCE blablabla….now it’s cuda work lol ?
I honestly don’t see why they
I honestly don’t see why they can sell this for so much. Two 780 TIs are faster (for gaming) and about half the price! Unless nVidia is just at a grab for money this is really ridiculous. I might understand one of these at 1.8-2k, but that is it.
Curious to see how it
Curious to see how it performs.. for the price…
who cares its 2 titan black
who cares its 2 titan black for price of three
No big dill
They should go
No big dill
They should go same way and put it under water
Actually, I would go with both versions…air and water
On air they should undercut AMD price
Under water it will be faster and price under 2K

Titan Z < Titan SLI < GTX 780
Titan Z < Titan SLI < GTX 780 Ti ~= R9 295X
Im an NVidia fanboy, ill
Im an NVidia fanboy, ill admit it. Their gpus have been in my rigs since I started building. But the price on this card is insulting. Why the price premium? Compute performance???They should concede to losing the dual gpu battle this round – from what I’ve read the 295x is an amazing piece of hardware, a big improvement from the 7990. Nvidia should ditch the titan z and move on to Maxwell.
Also, this card is less
Also, this card is less intended for the gaming community correct? I would expect that if it was intended for workstations that the price would be higher.
i remember their marketing
i remember their marketing was focused on gaming from the start with slogant like, the fastest gaming on the planet, listing the core and teraflops and braging to enthusiasts about how fast it is, now they removed all that from nvidia’s website lol, funny.
they dont really have a choice now, either cancel it, or turn around it’s purpose toward pro use, what else can they do ? nothing.
delay is because of the radeon 295×2, if it was not aimed for gaming enthusiasts, why would they delay to try to beat the 295×2 ?
im just glad that AMD slaped some common sense into nvidia’s delusions, although i wished they had waited untill nvidia releases the titanZ then bring the 295×2 that would have been epic 😀
Okay, if you do not like the
Okay, if you do not like the price, then don’t buy it. However, it’s very existence does not mean the company is not working on other cards or that you can no longer buy any other NV GPU options. NVIDIA is going to charge as much as they can for it, that’s just business.
Everyone is bitching (not so much here but around the web) that the Titan Z offers less performance per dollar than the r9 295×2 or NVIDIA own Titan Black SLI. Nothing is stopping you from buying those cards instead of the Titan Z. The new dual GPU is merely one option (of many) that NVIDIA believes can make it money and/or market share while filling a niche gap in its lineup. TITAN Z is about GPU compute density when working with CUDA. It enables more full GK110 GPU to be crammed into a single server or workstation. If you do not need the density, there are no doubt better options and feel free to go for them instead of the Titan Z.
In the end, it’s fine that it exists. Everything will be okay.
