Why is only AMD going to lose
Why is only AMD going to lose from the mining cards that are stating selling on eBay?
Both AMD and Nvidia will lose sales this quarter but in the case of AMD they will lose present and future sales that they already sold months ago. In the end they don’t lose anything. It is like they had being payed in advance 6 months ago for the cards that now are going on sale on eBay.
And those where the reference cards that most gamers where not going to buy because of all the negative reviews about the cooling system.
I bought the Gigabyte
I bought the Gigabyte Windforce 3-fan R9 290 for $320 on Amazon last week. The performance was great… except it wouldn’t plug into my CRT since AMD has decided to drop DVI-I from their Hawaii cards, so you can forget about using it with a CRT.
NVIDIA still offers analog output support on their GPUs, so that’s my next stop. Until my CRT dies, I have no reason to downgrade to an LCD.
Creative kills Aureal, the
Creative kills Aureal, the drivers continue to completely terrible and they stagnate on features so Microsoft decides audio has done innovating and pulls all the features into DirectX software and take away the entire sound card market.
Its still possible to get headphone surround sound enhancement from a Creative card and its better than DX directly but its not hardware accelerated and its working with what DX outputs to 5.1 virtual speakers.
The whole mess I agree is Creative’s own fault. But their hardware and software was always buggy and the big drive for change in Vista was stability which is why they changed the GPU driver model, sound card model etc.
This is an area where AMD
This is an area where AMD really hopes TrueAudio takes off. It is middleware that stays away from the driver stack, but can still be accelerated with hardware. This technology should allow much better 3D/positional audio with regular speakers and headphones. Still in its infancy though…
