How can you chose to not let your life be dictated by social media but instead share your thoughts off the grid? Follow the link at The Register to read about this brand new threat to advertisers that involves the use of email and interpersonal relationships instead of easily trackable social media tools. The next time you want to go on a date you had better Instagram your outfit choice and crowd source your plans for the evening or else you are a part of the problem!
"If you're old enough, you'll remember that if you wanted to tell a friend – or a group of friends – about an interesting link, you'd e-mail them either the whole text or a link to it. Congratulations: courtesy of the reptiles of marketing, you're now lumped into a nasty bunch of users called “dark social”."

The Ad/Marketing industry
The Ad/Marketing industry traces its roots back to the snake oil salesmen, the ones that usually end up tarred and feathered, and run out for town on a rail. These Ad snakes lust after our personal metrics, to sale to any and all for as much as their data mining market allows. The Ad pushers that push the Ads to the web pages, are a bunch of weasels, with their in your face/cover the screen Ad crap. Recently one Ad on the register’s web site has taken to auto navigating back to the original article, and away from the comments/commenting section, as a way of punishing the reader for closing the obnoxious and intrusive Ad, before it has a chance to hawk its product! If the Ad is over the text that I am trying to read, it is closed, and its client’s goods are a no purchase for me. You can Choke on you Own Poo covered Cookies You metrics gathering sight obscuring Ad weasels!
If you go to the linked
If you go to the linked Register article and from that to the original one, you’ll see that it’s not worded as infuriatingly as this article makes it sound.
It’s written for data miners and positions non-trackable sharing as a problem for them, not the society in general.
