Just a small note to continue with our SHIELD Tablet coverage. It turns out that the $299 (16GB) SHIELD Tablet, its cover, and its wireless controller are all available for pre-order on Amazon. The unit will actually be available on July 29th, but we were not aware that pre-orders would be possible until now.
While Ryan wrote a preview for the SHIELD Tablet, he is not giving a final word until he gets it into his lab and is capable of giving a full review. Also, we do not know how many units will be available. Whether you should pre-order, or wait for Ryan's final word, is up to you.
Thanks to our fans for alerting us of this availabilty in the IRC during TWiCH.

So I take it you’re really
So I take it you’re really expecting Nvidia to spend more than a token amount to entice development of K1-specific games for the tiny market of K1-based devices?
Cause I figure at some point saner heads should prevail and force Nvidia to cut their losses and move on. With most any other company, K1 would’ve never come to market.
Well there is already source
Well there is already source and unreal games on it…
And it’s not out yet. Ha.
I couldn’t imagine Valve just stopping at Portal 2.
Could you imagine how cool it’ll be to play Dota 2 and the likes on this device? Cross-platform.. Launched from the steam mobile app, hopefully. : P
I’ve been pc gaming since the 80’s and I can say, I am very fucking excited for this technology, and the ones to follow in this direction. Happy to of pre-ordered what I consider to be the first true pocket pc, give it a few generations and I highly doubt anyone will be needing a “pc” again.
This means more people around the would can have access to the same things we do. Education, communication, entertainment! When we’re achieving modern computational standards while lowering the wattage to staggering levels.. I honestly feel like it’s one step towards a better future for all. It’s important to support this shift in the industry I believe. Not just because it’s really super awesome. But because I dream of gaming off grid and internet for all.
As I said, as far as games
As I said, as far as games are concerned, Nvidia’s wallet is the limit, cause no one will develop a separate version for a small volume device like this tablet.
The K1 SOC has its priorities backwards if it wanted to be widely popular, with stagnant CPU performance, a hilariously overpowered GPU, and power consumption that disqualifies it for all but the most niche battery-powered devices.
Also, I’m pretty sure that any crappy $99 Android tablets will do more for the availability of information and education than this ill-fated device.
Spreadsheets run fine on GPUs
Spreadsheets run fine on GPUs with OpenCL acceleration, and I very rarely see people on tablets in coffee houses using tablets that are not plugged in, maybe traveling, or on the public transport using battery power, commuter trains, and some buses have power plugs, even Amtrak has power plugs. If you are without an external power source, run the Shield tablet in a low power using mode, and there will probably be external battery packs for this device, just like other external battery devices for Tablets, and phones. I would rather have more powerful GPUs and CPUs, than more battery life, and the newer devices have better power gating/low power modes. A K1 based tablet, running a full Linux would make a very popular alternative to the high priced windows tablets, a full Linux, and the K1’s ability to run the desktop versions, of OpenGL, OpenCL, could run many of the popular desktop Linux applications. The Denver core based K1 will probably improve the K1’s power usage, and CPU performance, but tablets need to start coming with 4GB of RAM. Nvidia already has some design wins, but it will get more when its Denver cores are available, Nvidia has a leg up on the competition with the desktop grade driver support on this SOC, now they need to get it into tablets that come with full Linux.
Negative much lol its not

Just being realistic.
We’ve seen the numbers on this very site, this SOC doesn’t belong in a battery-powered device, it’s natural habitat is a second-gen Uoya.
honestly i though stuff was
honestly i though stuff was running at native 1080 but im seeing exclusives like the UE4 demo and other games like trines 2 being upscaled from 720 and capped at 30 fps im all set with this.
