Yapt
Yapt (yet another performance test) is a benchmark recommended by a pair of drive manufacturers and was incredibly difficult to locate as it hasn't been updated or used in quite some time. That doesn't make it irrelevant by any means though, as the benchmark is quite useful. It creates a test file of about 100 MB in size and runs both random and sequential read and write tests with it while changing the data I/O size in the process. The results are a good look at overall drive performance.
As YAPT is not a 4k aligned test, some SSDs have a particularly hard time with it. Intel SSD 730 has more of an issue with non-aligned writing than the other drives here, explaining the off results seen above. In sequential writes, the lower speeds of the SSD wrk are apparent. Random (misaligned) writes were handled with nearly the same exact result when compared to the Marvell controlled Crucial MX100 and M550. Random and sequential reads of the SSD wrk were solid, turning in maximum figures in both tests.
Nice article. The product?
Nice article. The product? Yawn-stretch.
The thoughts under the IO
The thoughts under the IO graph are from previous article… Does nobody read these? 😉
It’s similar to the last
It's similar to the last Barefoot piece, but I am also talking about the R7 results in this piece (there were 4x Barefoot 3 SSDs in this review).
