Final Thoughts and Conclusions

Seasonic continues to hone their comprehensive product line with the introduction of two new Platinum Series power supplies. The enhancements made to the Platinum 1050 and Platinum 1200 translate to excellent performance, high efficiency and the ability to operate in silent-fanless mode at lower power levels.  Throw in a 7-year warranty, a great assortment of all modular cables, really tight voltage regulation, clean DC outputs and you have two very good power supplies to consider for your next build or upgrade.

If you don’t need Platinum level efficiency don’t forget the excellent Seasonic XM2 1250W power supply that incorporates many of the great features but is “only” 80Plus Gold certified for efficiency (90% efficiency versus 92% at 50% load). You can find it on newegg.com for $219.99 USD.

Both of the new Seasonic Platinum Series power supplies are currently available:
•    Seasonic Platinum 1050 $174.99 USD (newegg.com, September 2014)
•    Seasonic Platinum 1200 $239.99 USD (newegg.com, September 2014)

Strengths:
•    Up to 1050/1200 watts continuous power output
•    Outstanding voltage regulation
•    Excellent efficiency across a broad range of loads (80Plus Platinum certified)
•    Low AC ripple even at 100% load
•    Silent, fanless operation at lower power levels (Hybrid S3FC Fan Control)
•    Seasonic X-Series DC Connector Panel with integrated VRMs
•    Single +12V output can deliver 87A (1050W) and 100A (1200W)
•    7-Year warranty
•    Active PFC with universal AC input
•    All modular, flat ribbon-style cables with gold-plated connectors

Minor Weaknesses:
•    Slight price premium for 80Plus Platinum certification
