Ubisoft has integrated GameWorks into Assassin's Creed Unity, or at least parts of it. The main feature to be included is NVIDIA's Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion Plus (HBAO+), which is their implementation of Ambient Occlusion. This effect darkens areas that would otherwise be incorrectly lit with our current limitations of Global Illumination. Basically, it analyzes the scene's geometry to subtract some of the influence of "ambient light" in places where it is an unrealistic approximation (particularly in small crevices). This is especially useful for overcast scenes, where direct sunlight does not overwhelm the contribution of scatters and bounces.
The other features to be included are Temporal Anti-alising (TXAA), Percentage-Closer Soft Shadows (PCSS), and GeometryWorks Advanced Tessellation. TXAA and PCSS were both included in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, alongside the previously mentioned HBAO+, so it makes sense that Ubisoft continues to use what worked for them. GeometryWorks is a different story. NVIDIA seems to claim that it is like DirectX 11 tessellation, but is better suited for use alongside HBAO+ and PCSS.
Assassin's Creed Unity will be available on November 11th.
Proprietary stuff from Nvidia
Proprietary stuff from Nvidia in a game from Ubisoft. Hmm….
Does Nvidia drivers carry the Nvidia logo?
So far every implementation
So far every implementation of Gameworks in an Ubisoft game has resulted in a broken pile of garbage…I’ll be staying far away from this game.
maybe broken on your AMD
maybe broken on your AMD hardware.
I very much enjoyed AC Black Flag, which looked and played beautifully on my 780.
AC 3 runs poorly on my 780 ti
AC 3 runs poorly on my 780 ti
Slideshow on my 660 unless I
Slideshow on my 660 unless I make it look like an awkward nintendo game.
Can max out Shadows Of Mordor minus the usual DOF/Blur and AO dropped to low @ 60+ fps, or games like BF3/4 or such.
So yea!
I guess good on Nvidia for
I guess good on Nvidia for doing this, i bet they will make some people switch their cards if they are on the red side of the fence. Personally i dont like hardware specific settings like these when they get tied to a game.
That said i dont like the whole farce that is Freesync/G-sync either.
I’ve switched back to AMD
I’ve switched back to AMD because i haven’t seen anything come from nvidia that can help move gaming forwarded. Everything they do is about them instead of everyone.
To hell with open standards
To hell with open standards and games that work on everyone’s hardware!
Nvidia is in for the win. This means that for Nvidia to win and make billions, everyone else in the market has got to lose and go broke. Nvidia want the whole market for itself! They want all the billions for themselves. How do you win when your competitor has the goofiest PR and marketing team? You make their products look like crap by hiring tens of shills to bash and trash your competitor on the web, and by promoting proprietary stuff that only work on your products and denying it.
There you go! And btw, the whole Maxwell architecture efficiency claim is baseless. Nvidia has been using a more advnaced 28nm process node from TSMC since 2012. The process they use is less leaky and has gotten better since 2012, and that’s why Maxwell does better than Kepler.
AMD’s stuck with the first iteration of TSMC 28nm process, because they jumped in early.
Anyhow, to hell with the whole industry. All we’re getting is crappy politically correct games that promote degeneracy and filth.
You are all over the place
You are all over the place but if nvidia were to “kill” amd and monopolize the gpu market it is entirely possible that the whole industry could collapse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_video_game_crash_of_1983
although this doesnt directly relate to this occasion, It is a possible route the industry could take if the was only one manufacturer.
Which political correctness
Which political correctness are you talking about, there is political correctness from both sides of the political fence, and the best thing to do is give up the games that are not hardware agnostic, and that use proprietary APIs, sometimes it’s just healthy to give the game companies some losses, even if the game may be good, if the gaming company is playing favorites with one GPU manufacturer, take up paint ball survival gaming, and let good old SOL provide the global illumination, AO, real shadows, and reflections with real rays of light computed quantumly with real rays, interacting with real atoms/molecules that make up trees, and meat sacks in T-shirts, and such. Hit that gaming company with a few quarters on low sales, and let the Nvidia stock gather dust on the shelves.
There really needs to be more players in the discrete GPU market, there are plenty of GPU players in the SOC/mobile GPU market, maybe its time to go mobile gaming for a few financial quarters, and avoid any SOCs with Nvidia GPUs, that should send a powerful message. For sure the Steam boxes will be using open drivers, as open as possible, just play older games that do not require all the bells and whistles, it only takes a few business quarters for any company to get the message, especially the gaming companies.
I would love to see quad-copters with paint ball guns thrown into the paint ball war gaming mix, and other machine based robotic devices with paint ball guns, for some meat sacks versus the machines paint ball action outside in the fresh air.
Don’t buy the games you do not like, and if PC gaming is not your “PC”, there are other forms of gaming that the big monopolies can never control. PC gaming is too popular for its own good, and now the shills and flimflam marketing men/whatever have ruined the whole fun of it, and drained the wallets dry, maybe another gaming market crash is just what is needed to get the snake oil salesmen, and greedy GPU companies down and out, and desperate, and all the sleazy types disappear when the big money is no longer there.
It looks like ubisoft can’t
It looks like ubisoft can’t move forward because of Nvidia since i’ve been noticing alot of developers using CMAA instead of FXAA, TXAA, etc..
Sweet. This looks far, far
Sweet. This looks far, far better than the console releases.
while at it, check out
while at it, check out another couple of GameWorks titles demonstrated just recently:

Yay, more proprietary crap!!!
Yay, more proprietary crap!!! on top of a badly optimize PC port.
Wonder how many iSheep, I mean Nvidia “GAMERS” bite.
Nvidia is a business not a
Nvidia is a business not a charity, AMD act’s like they are a charity case and should get stuff for free. Sorry if that is not how business works. Nvidia has innovated more in gaming market then AMD has and probably more then they ever will. People vote that way with their money hence why nvidia has over 50% of market.
Monsanto is also a business.
Monsanto is also a business. If it is a good business on the other hand is another story. I choose to stay away from companies that do not have my best interest intigrated in the business stategy.
Yes I am a capitalist. Not a socialist like the people who made this stupid game.
You forgot to use /s at the
You forgot to use /s at the end of your comment.
If nvidia did innovate for gaming then please tell us what did they innovate that helped everyone..
An btw Nvidia wouldn’t even be around today if they never bought the Ageia Physx processor.
If I gotta write out a list
If I gotta write out a list of what they did, then there is no point cause you are to much of an idiot to realize what they have done.
For all of nVidia’s
For all of nVidia’s lambasting at AMD’d Huddy & co. that other titles can use gameworks too and they’re doing doing anything to hard PC gaming. What does nVidia have to say for themselves now?
I don’t trust nVidia at all. The Shadows of Mordor in-game benchmark says it all.
Wow, the baton of evil,
Wow, the baton of evil, mediocrity and other BS has really passed from EA to Ubisoft.
A tiny list of sh** Ubisoft has done just recently:
– Intentionally and unnecessarily gimped Watch Dogs on PC to please console makers.
– Poor optimization for Watch Dogs.
– Poor optimization for Assassin’s Creed Unity (they already said they won’t be supporting a wide plethora of hardware).
– Locked ACU at 30 fps.
– Made ridiculous hardware recommendations for a game that’s locked at 30FPS!
– Promoted homosexuality, anti-white racism and gynocentrism and other leftist c**p (especially in their Assassin’s Creed series).
and now they’re intentionally fragmenting the PC ecosystem with this BS.
My boycott of Ubisoft continues. And seeing how Nvidia has been in bed with them on several occasions (Watch Dogs and now ACU), I will also be avoiding Nvidia hardware as much as possible (which won’t be hard at all).
If you want an open-world game just play Shadow of Mordor.
The graphics are gorgeous, especially on AMD cards which have more video memory and allow higher texture settings.
The performance is awesome and there’s no anti-consumer shenanigans.
The difference in setting alone (it’s in Arda/Tolkien universe) would save you from the franchise fatigue of Assassin’s Creed.
ACU is locked at 30fps on
ACU is locked at 30fps on console cause the cpu which is made by AMD BTW, is to slow to put it any higher.
I like how you take Ubisoft
I like how you take Ubisoft word or just about anything from Nvidia as gospel.
Other developers
“We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles.
All consoles will output the game at 30 frames per second.”
Aslong as games are being developed with PS3 and especially X-Box 360 in mind there not going to translate well for PC.
it is an AMD cpu clocked at
it is an AMD cpu clocked at 1.6ghz, so its very possible and likely, AMD cpu with 8 cores clocked at 5ghz can’t even beat an intel cpu with 4 cores clocked at 3.5ghz.
I don’t care how ACU or any
I don’t care how ACU or any game performs on consoles. They locked ACU on PC as well when there’s absolutely no legitimate reason to.
And the semi-custom APUs in the consoles having the performance level they have isn’t due to AMD not being able to engineer something better. AMD has CPUs and GPUs with performance reaching all the way up to 60+ FPS at 4K, but the cheap console makers ordered certain parts at certain price points and AMD delivered what the console makers ordered.
“ACU is locked at 30fps on
“ACU is locked at 30fps on console because the console was made with a low-end CPU. While AMD does have a variety of CPUs that range from very low-end to much, much higher end chips, the decision to go with low-end hardware is the fault of Sony and MS.”
Didn’t your mother ever teach you that omission of information is just as bad as outright lieing?
Its not that its slow as
Its not that its slow as people are making it out to be. Ubisoft game engine is only optimized for the lowest common denominator which is X-Box 360, a 3-core console. Until they drop X-Box 360 and PS3 development Ubisoft isn’t going to change AnvilNext to be optimize for the newer hardware in PS4 or XBone let alone PCs.
I agree that it is not the
I agree that it is not the slowest cpu and that ACU is badly optimized, and for that matter, Ubisoft games as of lately are not optimized that well.
But that is not the reason for my comment that you replied to.
My comment was meant to show just how flawed Arbiter’s comment and just how biased he is towards AMD.
Arbiter’s comment:
ACU is locked at 30fps on console cause the cpu which is made by AMD BTW, is to slow to put it any higher.
My comment:
“ACU is locked at 30fps on console because the console was made with a low-end CPU. While AMD does have a variety of CPUs that range from very low-end to much, much higher end chips, the decision to go with low-end hardware is the fault of Sony and MS.”
Notice how Arbiter has intentionally worded this, or rather left words out to make it look like that the reason why consoles are underperformers is because it is AMD’s fault?
Notice how my comment fills in the gaps to show where the blame really lies at?
Arbiter is like that in
Arbiter is like that in various forums.
Same regurgitating crud from him no matter where he goes.
* The cpu they CHOSE TO USE
* The cpu they CHOSE TO USE from AMD is too slow to put it any higher
You made it sound like AMD has one freakin’ processor.
They could of -in theory- chose any of the 30 other processors that existed at the time that were better.
But they chose that one.
Because, they’re idiots.
Point I make is amd 8350 for
Point I make is amd 8350 for example clocked at 4ghz can only just match a cpu that is clocked slower at 3.5ghz AND has half the physical cpu cores.
Take in to fact the cpu in console is clocked to only like 40% of that 8350, only 1.6ghz it is VERY plausible that cpu is limiting the game. Console makers clocked it that low cause they lower TDP which has been known on AMD cpu’s to not scale as well at higher clocks.
lol, your response is weak.
lol, your response is weak. The other guy called you out on your flawed and biased comment and here you are going off on a tangent of rubbing mud on AMD(which is pretty typical comeing from you).
Your initial comment(or point) was putting the blame of the console low performance on AMD, which is simply not the whole truth:
“ACU is locked at 30fps on console cause the cpu which is made by AMD BTW, is to slow to put it any higher.”
The fault of the console for low performance lies with Sony and MS. They CHOSE to use a low-end CPU, AMD did not force them to.
Want to play the blame-game? then use the whole truth and not only parts of it!
Excellent comment alkanur.
Excellent comment alkanur. This whole game series is Fabian socialism style brainwashing.
I was planning on a gtx 960 but I will now stay away from Nvidia completely as they are working with these socialists. It’s a bad business.
I was red for most of my
I was red for most of my life, recently went green because I wanted to support PC gaming crossing over to the tablet market. Then it burned me, suffered from screen distortion and then cracked apart.
I went to their forums, and had their own support crew giving me conflicting information about everything. Just fed me through a machine. Assured my next one will be fine even though two clicks away on their own website there is person after person reporting issues with their replacements.
I recently lost my home, okay. Not their fault.
I have a baby coming, trying to find a home.
Just stop bullshitting me and give me my fucking money back.
I’ve purchased over twenty nvidia GPU’s in the past few months.
You think that means shit to them? Clearly FUCKING NOT.
AMD used to send my buddies and I, a bunch of kids at a 10-30 person LAN party in a rec center all kinds of really cool prizes, and huge ATI Gaming Banners, other companies like Thermal-take and In-Win, energy drink companies would all support us and give us prizes, made us feel like what we did mattered (small hick town).
Just the fact they would recognize what we’re doing for them, and would appreciate it enough to make our small try hard events feel noticed, feel like a real competition. It’s amazing.
And that’s why I’m a PC gamer.
Nvidia doesn’t give a fuck about a person, if they rep green or red. Or both. All they care about is assuring they have a strangle hold on the market and they keep getting the checks.
Not to mention their bullshit lies about the “new fancy down-sampling EXCLUSIVE ON 900 SERIES NVIDIA GPUSS!@@” which seems to get ignored on every tech site that exists. I don’t have the means to test it on duel-link right now, but I suspect they’ve recently simply locked down the driver said to disable non-900 cards from going over 1.5x native resolution. I used to run 2x+ game depending. But I might of been on a dual-link cable, can’t confirm currently. Either way, it’s something I’ve been doing, and many clever others (as it was never very obvious on how to do it) for quite some time.
And again I ask if there is a difference between how the 900’s can do it, and how it’s been possible all along PLEASE que me in, because every online techie has ignored that question entirely thus far.
ANNNNNND END OF RANT!
And now I’ve just read they
And now I’ve just read they are shadow banning people talking about the issue / letting others know the new ones are no better on their forum.
Honestly these things shouldn’t of made it to retail.
Never mind the cracks, have you ever picked yours up and realized if you had passed out then it likely would of melted and caught fire?
They should be VERY happy all I want is my money back.
This is not acceptable.
I might just be a single digit to them but if they would of just respected it’s customers and not lied to me I would of continued buying 2+ GPU’s of theirs every few weeks for a very, very long time to come. But theres no way I can put their hardware in my builds after experiencing their bullshit “support” Even if I was really happy with how they’ve all performed minus the odd one having coil whine. I never want to have to deal with those plastic cunts again and would never ever suggest putting one of these tablets in a family home, unless you want said family to die perhaps.
Mine has a fucking crack so large in the side I’m sure over time dust build up would burn, if not the piece of trash itself alone.
Wow bunch of fucking nerds
Wow bunch of fucking nerds taking gaming way too serious!
There are way more important things in life to worry about a fucking game dumbasses. Don’t like it don’t buy it (Ubisoft / Nvidia)! Buy your indie games or w/e AMD evolved titles for all I care. I tried the first Ass. game on the xbox360 and didn’t like it. Never bought any Ass. game again.
Like being robbed of 400
Like being robbed of 400 dollars and given a dangerous and broken out of the box device?
As an adult that kind of thing pisses you off a bit, yea.
You tend you care about hundreds of dollars just vanishing.
Purchases, learning to use and confirming quality is something some people have to pay out of their pocket for before endorsing and promoting in our own sales.
Even coming from red I always respected the quality of Nvidia GPU’s and really expected nothing less from them, just at the time AMD made sense for the demographic I target.
Well, I was VERY wrong and sadly had to learn after purchasing thousands of dollars of GPU’s from them, that their customer service is manipulative and deceitful.
Has nothing to do with “games” kid.
And just wait till’ one of these is proved responsible for burning some sorry bastards home down. People have had to stumble across their home getting burnt to put their tablet somewhere safe so it wouldn’t start a fire. Including me.
Not, cool. They need to accept they fucked up huge.
And make up for it fast, because a lot of die-hard greens ain’t fucking happy.
Has everything to do with
Has everything to do with games, read the topic and game involved Mr. Blind. What you’re on about doesn’t belong here and is off topic, there is the door >>>>>>>>>
They using Nvidia specific tech in the game. TXAA and or some minor tech and everybody goes mental LOL
Sure.
Sure.
I’m using nvidia and TBH this
I’m using nvidia and TBH this shit pisses me off this game will be no doubt a horrid port yet nvidia throws its name on it with exclusive shit regardless how horribly unoptimized it will be just to made a profit.
Make no mistake this game will run like shit and even more so with these added effects.
Im so sick of PC gaming literally no reason to go out and buy new video cards. All you’re doing is spending more money to get more frames from horrible optimized games.
I was a bit shocked few days
I was a bit shocked few days ago when minimal and recommended specs for this game were published, I wondered how could it be so badly optimized to require such hardware. Now I know why, GW and nvidia in action again.
good nvidia !!let the battle
good nvidia !!let the battle begin with amd vs nvidia
mantle vs game works!!!Microsoft wants a apple environment its all good for competition guys
