The contestants are lined up in [H]ard|OCP's test bench, at around $700 you have a pair of GTX 970's and in the same weight class are a pair of R9 290X cards, next weighing in at just under $550 are two R9 290s, and rounding out the completion are a pair of GTX 780's who punch somewhere between $800 to $1000 depending on when you look. The cards are tested for their ability to perform on a 4K stage as well as in the larger 5760×1200 multi-monitor event. After a long and gruelling battle the extra work the 290X put into trimming its self down and fitting into a lower weight class has proven to be well worth the effort as they managed to show up the 970's in every performance category although certainly not in power efficiency. Any of these pairings will be powerful but none can match a pair of GTX 980's who are also in a price class all by themselves.
"We take 2-Way NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 SLI for a spin and compare it to R9 290X CF, R9 290 CF, GTX 780 SLI at 4K resolution as well as NV Surround on a triple-display setup. If you want to see how all these video cards compare in these different display configurations we've got just the thing. Find out what $700 SLI gets you."

I just bought a EVGA 970 ACX
I just bought a EVGA 970 ACX 2.0. It’s quite a beast!
are you guys going to do a
are you guys going to do a Far Cry 4 benchmark? so far it is taking my 780 to its knees and I am really wondering if I should get another one or just try and sell it and go for a 980.
I have no first hand
I have no first hand experience, but so far it looks like AMD is actually performing better than nVidia with the current game patches and latest respective beta drivers. For example a Radeon 7970/R9 280X is performing as well or better than a GTX 780. This makes me feel better about holding on to my OC’d Radeon 7950 Boost for a while longer.

This seems very odd for an nVidia sponsored title. Maybe all the Gameworks features are exacting a significant toll on performance for nVidia GPUs whereas the AMD render path is simpler and therefore gives better FPS? I would say wait for a performance patch or driver “optimizations” before dropping half a grand or so on a new GPU.
Well if you live in Buffalo,
Well if you live in Buffalo, why not run a closed loop heat exchange system out the window into all that snow, and overclock the less expensive AMD kit, or just use AMD to heat the house. Hell any server farms in the area should build huge storage mounds of all that free snow, and pipe the chilling solution through and into the server room cabinets, plenty of free chilling to last the season in upstate NY. I’m sure the city/state would love to have a place to melt that snow, and delivery would be free.
If gameworks is exacting a toll, then for sure the software needs improving, but who keeps up with the overall improvements on released GPU hardware, once the new models need to be hawked, it’s still the same, buy AMD if your short on cash, or splurge on Nvidia if you have cash to spare, and just how much difference is there to notice at 60 FPS, or even 30! But thanks to all that will buy the “winner” and spend the money to pay for all that engineering, that those that buy last years technology New, and on sale today, never have to worry about, and the gaming is just fine, and the bank account is so much fuller, if there is a bank account remaining at all for those on green Team.

Even after the correction this is just FALSE.
