The recently released KB3004394, an update for Win 7 and Server 2008 Root Certificate Program has been causing havoc with many machines and could also be what is causing the installation errors some users have had with the AMD Catalyst Omega driver. It is not just the new AMD driver, NVIDIA users have also seen installation issues after accepting this update and that is only the tip of the iceberg. Reports of issues with VirtualBox, Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Update itself and many other programs and system files are being negatively effected by this update. If you have it on your system Microsoft recommends you manually remove it to prevent issues with your machine now and in the long term using Programs and Features –> Installed Updates.
For those who can still access Windows update you should see KB3024777, which will remove the problematic update automatically or you can download it directly from Microsoft here.
"We have found that this update is causing additional problem on computers that are running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This includes the inability to install future updates."

They have already issued an update to remove the borked patch, it appeared via windows update! At least M$ corrected their own mistake, that one a few months back required the user to go in and uninstall several patches. What gives M$, your main information page for KB’s mostly deals with windows 8, and the remainder of your still supported OSs hardly rate an entry of their own. Windows 7 still has the majority of the installed based, at least have the information separated by OS, that 8/8.1 only focus is still not going to help reduce the confusion surrounding the updates that are bad!
From now on M$, every KB that you issue, should already have an uninstall KB ready to be pushed out, should it be needed, these borked updates are happening more often than not lately!

An used the “Windows 7 64-bit (WHQL Desktop driver)” version. Also i done a custom install an removed Raptr from the install list.

When 2020 gets here, provided M$’s latest offering does not have any baked in app ecosystem runtime, and the desktop is king. Windows 10 is looking like a pass for me also, unless that sign onto the cloud is made clearly optional, by a checkbox at first startup of any new PC/Laptop. I want the explicit option of avoiding all that functionality at first boot, and not have the kruft foisted upon me, and the options to not have the app store API, and closed ecosystem, and without having the opt out obfuscated deep down under a few layers of menus. Windows 7 works with all of my software, and does not impose an app store ecosystem, and god awful UI, that requires a third party software install to semi-turn off, while leaving the crappy UI’s crappy API and app ecosystem still there.

Still it uses less RAM than Win7 and is faster in games and my video editing software. Better multicore, SSD and efficient. By all means stay with an inferior soon end of life piece of software. When windows becomes obsolete I’m jumping to Steam OS for my gaming needs when its fully compatible with good pc gaming hardware out there.
For now Win 8.1 does everything better and faster than Win 7.

HAHAHAHAHA! this is literally the biggest lie… I work on both 7 and 8.1… I have used it in every situation(gaming, photoshop, etc) and there is almost NO DIFFERENCE. Actually win7(if you know what your doing) usually uses LESS processes in the background than 8.1 due to 8.1 having multiple menus/screens and apps… Sorry but there is a reason 10 is being rushed… Its because 8 and 8.1 were nothing worth upgrading too.
