Final Thoughts and Conclusions
On the good side, the new be quiet! Straight Power 10 800W CM power supply is very quiet, virtually silent while operating in the low to mid-power range thanks in large part to the high-quality SilentWings3 cooling fan. However, there are many other high-quality PSUs on the market in this range that also operate very quietly or silently with no fan spinning at all, at low to mid-power levels.
The PSU also delivers very good voltage regulation (±2% on the main rails) and operates efficiently, easily meeting the 80 Plus Gold certification criteria. But again, there are other 800W PSUs on the market that deliver even better voltage regulation and some with higher efficiency (80 Plus Platinum) at a similar price point.
On the down side, the Straight Power 10 800W CM PSU delivered acceptable but not outstanding AC ripple and noise suppression and the unit is relatively expensive when compared to other enthusiast grade 800W power supplies. The supplied cables are good but the lack of a second 4+4 pin/8-pin ATX12V/EPS cable and connector may be missed by some users and flat ribbon-style peripheral cables that are becoming standard on many high-end PSUs would be nice.
The Straight Power 10 800W CM power supply is currently available and shipping with a MSRP of $169.90, which makes this unit relatively expensive compared to some of the competition at the high performance end of the 750W~850W range. In the past, a few readers assumed that be quiet! PSUs were built in Germany; so to set the record straight, the product conception, design and quality control originates in Germany but the unit is manufactured in China.
• Quiet operation, virtually silent at low to mid-power levels
• 80 PLUS Gold certified (87%~92% efficiency at 20-100% load)
• Very good voltage regulation (±2%)
• Modular cables
• High quality SilentWings3 fan with fluid dynamic bearings
• 5-Year warranty
• Higher AC ripple and noise on the DC outputs than we would like to see
• Relatively high cost compared to other enthusiast grade 750W~850W PSUs
Bottom Line: In today’s mature power supply market a new PSU must really shine in all areas to stand out. In our opinion, the new be quiet! Straight Power 10 CM Series is a good 800W power supply, but not an outstanding one, particularly at this price point.

Our thanks to be quiet! for sending us the SP-10 800W CM PSU to review.

To simulate real world
To simulate real world operation, some of the warm exhaust air from the PSU under test is recirculated back to the intake through a passive air duct, which allows the PSU air inlet temperature to increase with load, just like it would in a real PC.
This is not true in many cases, such as when the PSU is at the bottom of the case and when the case uses a rotated design like the Silverstone FT02 and FT05.
